Government employee. I likely will drive. Normal per diem rate.

What is my beer can't miss, my should dos, and my 'I can't spend it all, my wife will hit me' place.

If you have an opportunity to visit us at The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery, it'd be our pleasure to join a fellow BA for a few pints and show you around the brewhouse. Feel free to shoot us a message, and congrats on visiting a fantastic beer town! You really cannot go wrong.

Thank you. I will do that. I will also drive for sure, now.

    Assuming you are working/staying uptown:

Must Hit Breweries: Olde Mecklenburg - Triple C - Noda Brewing - Birdsong Brewing
    Must Hit Store: Brawleys
Must Hit Bar: Duckworths (Park Rd).
Must Hit BBQ w/ beer: Mac's Speed Shop
Must Hit Restaurant w/ beer: The Liberty

Should do: Good Bottle Co (bottle shop w/ 12 taps). Salud (bottle shop w/ 4 taps). Common Market (bottle shop/corner market/deli w/ taps).

Locally, there are only a few beers that are bottled. Triple C Baby Maker (DIPA), Noda Imperial Coco Loco (imperial Porter), Olde Meck usually has 3 bottled beer rotated. That is all I can think of that is out right now. Regionally, there are plenty, with Olde Hickory leading the charge there (IMHO). If you have time, drive the 10 miles south into South Carolina to Grapevine Wine shop or Frugal McDougals and grab all the COAST and Westbrook you can (not distributed in NC but awesome beer).

    Good luck!

    Agreed with NoMoreBeerBelly

Common Market is a great place to go after dinner for both good and hard to find bottles and also good and hard to find beers on draft. Brawley's Beverage is one of the best bottle shops in the area. Definitely check out Frugal McDougals as it is a short trip to cross into SC.

I haven't been able to make it to OMB yet, but I want to. I live in Raleigh and am originally from Charlotte, don't get to make it back as much as I would like because I love it there.

NoDa Brewery has some really good IPA's, probably the best in the area and they share a parking lot with Bird Song Brewery. This is close to Cabo Fish Taco which is an excellent place if you like seafood and mexican, I personally go once every visit to Charlotte, but there is lots of more to Charlotte for dining. The Peculiar Rabbit just opened up recently, it is a 3 story gastropub which features rooftop dining. It is also a 30 second walk to Common Market from there.

Love this thread. I'm going to be in Charlotte in mid-late July for a wedding. Going to OMB is a definite already on my list.

TheFunGuy, what week you going to be there? I'm there 19/20-22. Was also looking at one of the brewery tour buses that hit up a few of the breweries there in an afternoon.

Finding some Olde Hickory is up on my list too.

July 7 to 11. I am not sure which hotel, I sit down with travel Tuesday.

Where do I find the bus tours listed?

I wrote about the new brewery tour services recently. Currently Charlotte Brews Cruise and Charlotte Brew Tours are the only ones in town. http://www.charlottebeer.com/2013/04/10/new-charlotte-brewery-tours/

I hope you guys enjoy Charlotte's beer scene. Let me know if you have any questions!

Looking these places up on-line I am feeling a lot better about this trip. In addition to being the first to welcome me, OMB looks really good online, not just BA but Yelp (my other guide to everything).

Are there any breweries I need to be careful of the neighborhood in? I am asking as a fan, usually with a good pint in hand, of the First 48.

For some reason I thought OMB was just some run-of-the-mill brewery like a Yuengling and I have no idea why... maybe I think of Old Speckled Hen when I hear OMB hah. Definitely gonna check you guys out.

OMB is Amazing! We were going to have our rehearsal dinner there but Meg decided on the Liberty instead. Ironically I'm asking them to serve OMB at the dinner.

Nomorebeerbelly's post needs to be saved somewhere for all who visit Charlotte to use as a starting point.
Though I would add VGBG and Dandelion Market as places for those staying more downtown.
