I also agree with the contrarian stratagem from 2011. It was fun.

I have no idea exactly what I may get for participating this year, but I hope it is something intriguing.

{Yes - all the beers at the Chicago Beer Geeks event @ the Bottom Lounge were expensive. Its own collaboration beer with Wild Onion (Deception) was $8 | 16 oz. I spent nearly $60 on beers. }

Props to Kent and BeerFX for putting on the Beyond the Brew event! Never thought I would say this... But I drank too much BA Abraxas. Cheers to Cory, John, Tim, and Kyle for the low key and educational discussion on barrel aged beers. Great event!

 

Glad I decided not to go to the Bottom Lounge. I think I'll be avoiding that place in the future, as well.

if your goal at the delilah's sour fest is to get a buzz on, you will be sorely disappointed unless you stick to the $4 tart side of the moon special i think they're doing. they do occasionally pull out some crazy bottles that you wouldn't get to taste otherwise without spending a fortune or trading away your cellar (vintage LP gueuze, etc.).

 

Perennial's event last night at Bangers and Lace was a great time. The beer was all exceptional, with large pours. And the food was also very good. I will definitely go back there for beer dinners in the future. ISO more BA Abraxas. I could still taste it this morning.

 

Well there are a ton of beers there that I would want to try, just dont want to break the bank doing it.

 

true. i went last year, and left with nary a buzz but feeling good because i got to try so many beers i've wanted to try for a long while. even if it's not particularly rare, for example, it's nice to taste 3f schaerbeekse kriek without dropping 40 bucks on a bottle. i could definitely imagine getting my 20 bucks worth if the one this year is anything like last year.

edit: then again, different people have different definitions of worth it. some people thought it was worth it to spend 25 bucks and stand in line for an hour and a half for a four ounce pour of rare.

 

the beer temple's sour event tonight was super fucking cool. i'll probably talk about it more tomorrow, but big thanks to penrose, off color, and chris for putting this event on and making it one of the best events of the week and certainly one i'll remember for quite a while.
