If all beer was the same price, do you think craft beer would outsell macros?

Non-craft drinkers are bombarded with dozens of craft options pretty much everywhere they go now (at least where I live)....grocery stores, bars, parties...I'm curious if anyone has any insight into what these people think about the whole craft scene in general. Or if they look at all the options in the store as an annoyance or with curiosity. I imagine most of their eyes just glazing over as they head like zombies to the macro-rack, but I would also think that eventually they might give in and try some craft.

A lot of the macro faithful think craft beer tastes like shit.

They have tunnel vision and only see Bud, Miller or Coors.
If they want to get fancy they drink an import, like Heineken.

People always say they have been getting into the craft beer scene and then follow it up with Shock Top

As a coors light drinker for years, that finally saw the light and almost exclusively drinks craft now I can tell you for the most part they probablly dont even think about it. They probablly just walk right by not even considering what esle is there. And as a previous poster stated they think that having a Heineken, Guiness, or Stela is stepping it up. Not speaking poorly about these people by any means, as I said I was one for years, they just dont know any better.

If they haven't tried craft or don't like it, they may not understand why they should pay more, in comparison to macro.

Totally agree, some people just don't ever change or aren't willing to even try something different.

As long as you can hold out from buying Gucci. Yeah, I don't care either. But apparently I *should.*

Being exposed to it doesn't mean you're going to be converted. Plenty of people just turn a blind eye to the things that don't interest them. We all do it. It's like when is see a commercial for a "carnival cruise" or similar. Tons of people take and enjoy going on cruises. Personally, I have zero interest in ever going on a cruise, so when it comes up, I just tune it.

I think a lot of them want to be part of a crowd. The crowd drinks Miller Light (or whatever), so they do not want to be different from the rest of the drunk lemmings.

Until the end of never. Most BMC drinkers enjoy their beer as much as craft drinkers enjoy their beer.I bars they often seem to be enjoying their be more than craft drinkers.

I'm not sure what you mean by this statement. If you are saying they don't care because they are content with what they have, then I would probably agree. Most people develop a taste for a product early in their experience of that product. there is research, for example, that shows Americans, as a whole, prefer the taste of canned tomatoes to fresh. So a person whole likes the taste of AAL would have to have some reason to try something different and if it is too "different" they may avoid it. When I introduce a BMC fan to a craft I try to have them taste something that won't challenge that taste sensation too much. Hence, I'll give them a nice lager or a milder pale ale. Once they decide they like one of those they can begin the craft journey.

It's kind of like how I am with wine. I just don't really care.. too busy with beer.

I overheared a woman the other night talking w/ her bf.. she was all excited that the store carried hoegaarden. Then she walks up next to me as I'm looking over the giant wall of singles and big bottles, and stares at it for a few seconds and just kind of sighs and walks away. Kind of like she was curious but just overwhelmed by it all and didn't know where or how to really start.

Many BMC drinkers do not like the taste of "BEER"

That point is a good one. I've witnessed that too, someone walks into the beer store and is trying to find something "special" as a gift for someone (for example) and asks the clerk what are some good German beers to try. Clerk rattles off a few good suggestions and points out the bottles on the shelf, the person looks confused and says "Well I think I've seen them drink Becks before, maybe I'll just get that" and they walk away to get their Becks.

This. I'm sure there are plenty of BAs who don't care about artisan cheeses, fine wines, micro-distillery spirits, fresh roasted coffees, etc etc. Ask yourself why you have no interest in whichever of those products doesn't excite you and you'll have the answer as to why AAL drinkers have no interest in craft.

To add to the point of my making this thread, and I see most of you agree that just by being in the beer section at a supermarket is not enough to sway anyone, what about overhearing or seeing people with craft at a party? Do you think any of this talk or party happenings are getting through to these people?
