I'm flying into Denver and will have a 6 hour layover in the Denver airport later in the year. I wanted to see if anybody had suggestions for Bars/Brew pubs & breweries in the area? I looked into Denver Beer Co, which is a 30 minute drive. Any other suggestions? Also looking for recommended restaurants and liquor stores in the area.

    Cheers,
    Jeff

I've heard that the Sporting News bar that's over by the intersection of Pena and Tower has some interesting taps. For breweries, the closest thing would be Caution: Brewing, which has a great rep.

Unfortunately the airport is pretty far from Denver proper. Actually, It's basically out in the middle of nowhere. There's a Boulder Beer in the terminal. Other than that you'll likely be driving into Denver in which case there are endless possibilities.

Thanks for the information. Yea from my brief search I noticed not a whole lot was close. I was thinking of renting a car though if need be.

I think your best best is just finding one of the drinking establishments in the airport. As mentioned, there's the Boulder Beer spot, there's also a New Belgium spot. Better than nothing...never been to either, so its possible that those spots might offer more than just their own beers? Probably a better shot that Boulder Beers spot does that than New Belgiums I would think.

Depends on when you'll be here, but Root Down is opening in Concourse C sometime soon. They have great food and a very good beer selection in their Lo-Hi location, so would think it would be similar (possibly more limited) at DIA.

Swing by caution. Danny is a great brewer with some really interesting beers. Hippty Hop is awesome.

There is a Denver Chophouse outpost in Concourse A and a Rock Bottom in C. A while back I found some good tap selections at Timberline Grille in C but I haven't been in a long time.
The New Belgium locations in A and B are small but also serve beer.
If you can leave the airport do it, but you can stay busy without leaving.

I'll back the Caution recommendation as well, if you can swing it. If traffic is cooperating, you can be there in under 20 minutes from the Airport.

Another Caution vote. They're only open Thurs-Sun, though.

Shoot he's got a SIX HOUR layover; he ought to cab to Crooked Stave, stay for an hour or two, and cab back! Or cab to Caution for a quick taster set with the cab idling outside, then hit Crooked Stave, then cab back to DIA.

Stapleton Tap House is opening sometime soon in Northfield. Just a tiny bit further than Caution.
