Another beer that was listed in the TABC label approvals was St. Arnold's Bishop Barrel 1 (Approved May 23, 2013). Confused me a bit...

    3rded on both counts.

A friend and his wife just had a baby a few weeks ago and he's looking for a beer that can age for 21 years. I wonder if Harvest Ale might be in the frame for that gig.

I tasted a 1993 Harvest Ale this past Sunday. It was not good, unless you like eating paper.

I think pretty much the only beer that could potentially go for 21 years is Sam Adams Utopias, or a Gueuze/Lambic. I hear the occasional barleywine making it that far and maintaining decency, but not many.

I'm ready for Prairie Ales to finally be available in Houston. I know they have already gotten label approval, but I'm just impatient sometimes.

I stashed away some Life & Limb after my kid was born in 2011. Not sure if it will hold up but it seemed fitting.

10.2%? I'm sure it'll hold for a few years and then turn into sweet barleywine. /sarcasm.

Thomas Hardy's Ale would be an ideal candidate but I don't think it's been brewed since 2008, although I've heard rumours of a comeback. If Courage Russian Imperial Stout is being made to the original recipe it might work, although 21 years seems a bit optimistic for that one.

Alternatively he could commission Jester King to brew a stock ale in the style of those beers the lord of the manor would brew and keep for 21 years when a son and heir was born. Got your ears on Jeff? :sunglasses:
