Anyone still see this around near the CLT border (Fort Mill) lately?

I was out of town Thur-Tues and left before it hit the shelves!

OK. so i wasn't going to post til it was ready but edward keeps posting pics so i'll give you the scoop. we barreled some of the first batch of mexican cake. to be exact 2 jack daniels barrels (the stuff you saw being bottled), 2 apple brandy barrels (just racked to a fermenter) and 2 red wine waiting to be racked next. so as you can tell from the pic these were barreled january 2012 so about 16-18 months in the barrel. the cool thing i learned about barrel aging, especially something like mexican cake is the beer aged was just the base stout with no spices. so the beer aged and then we racked it to a fermenter and added the cocoa nibs, cinnamon, vanilla and habaneros now so none of those flavors have faded, they are all fresh. the 2 jack daniels barrels yielded about 40 cases, the apple brandy will probably be a little less considering the barrels are a little smaller and the red wine barrels are bigger so possibly a larger yield. i'd say all within 30-50 cases each variant, but we won't know til it's all bottled. now to answer (and not answer your questions), first according to edwards tweet it will be brewery only. when is the release? not sure, like i said colin needs to finish the labels. will all 3 variants be released at once? no clue but i assume so. how much? limit? no idea. as soon as i know more i will let you know.

Ill look. Usually Edward just marks them as "red wine" but he should know the variety or winery.

Btw, the Mex Cake on cask last night was bada$$. Reminded me of a spicy sopapilla. I actually was sweating when I was drinking it, but I couldn't stop.

Thank you for this. I was having a debate with my friend over whether the spices would be added before or after barrel aging for Mexican Cake and it looks like I won. I really think this is the best way to go about this.

Hopefully these will all release at once and I'll be making the trip down from Columbia for it!
