Really cool article/map. Thanks for the share! Glad to see Texas so highly ranked. And props to Karbach for their growth!

Well Texas should have a high number of breweries since it's the second most populous state in the country.

According to plenty here, they all suck.

I don't know if I would go that far. But, where would you insert the top TX brewers into this ranking?

1 Hill Farmstead Brewery Greensboro Vermont USA
2 Three Floyds Brewing Company Munster Indiana USA
3 Founders Brewing Company Grand Rapids Michigan USA
4 Cigar City Brewing Tampa Florida USA
5 Bells Brewery Kalamazoo Michigan USA
6 AleSmith Brewing Company San Diego California USA
7 Russian River Brewing Santa Rosa California USA
8 Firestone Walker Brewing Co. Paso Robles California USA
9 Stone Brewing Co. Escondido California USA

I'll take some Texas breweries over Three Floyds, Cigar City, and constantly go with Texas breweries over Stone...Just my opinion of coarse. Anyway, basically all that is saying is that Michigan, California, and a few other places spread out around the country have truly world class beers. I would certainly put Live Oak in that category, and 512 Pecan Porter.

Honestly none of the TX breweries can touch that Top 9 list, but I could see Jester King cracking the list at some point.

I could easily insert Jester King in that Stone slot and feel totally fine about it

Or (512), Live Oak, or Real Ale honestly.

Really? Now, I don't drink Stone IPA like I used to back when I was startin out with IPAs, but they have a very solid lineup, IMO. I think they put out superior brews in quite a few categories. With IRS, Smoked Porter, Arrogant Bastard, Double Bastard, Lukcy B, Ruination, Enjoy By, Old Guardian, etc, etc, they put out a deeper lineup with more hits than any Texas brewery. JK puts out more misses almosts than hits, IMO, as does Karbach. Granted, there are several TX brewers with a couple hits or so, but none have as many stars as Stone.

No Texas brewery can compete with the Top 10 right now. To say otherwise, is to be kidding yourself.

With the new law changes however, it might happen.

Jester King is the closest competitor... but at the moment they're already a ROYGBIV behind Crooked Stave in the fruited sour department. Atrial Rubicite will completely change how they are received.

How dare someone prefer one brewery to another?

You would put a single beer in place of an entire brewery? (Re: Pecan Porter)

You always win at stupid faces. :stuck_out_tongue:

Personal choice. Stone makes 2-3 beers I like (keep in mind that I don't ever drink IPA's) and Jester King makes many more that appeal to my palate. So if I could only choose 1 of those 2 to ever drink again, the choice would be quite easy for me.

Hey, I get it you like Stone. I have always known that. To me Stone has had as many misses as anybody. People don't usually agree with me, which is pretty normal around here. If anyone wants to dive through my reviews, all my opinions are there. Their IPA and IRS are probably the only things I have repeatedly bought over the years, and lately that has not been often.

Are you claiming that (512) only has one good beer?

I'd take Cascabel over any single beer that Stone makes. Pecan Porter too. WBADPP.
