Short's Freedom of '78 (Pure Guava IPA)

I'm the same. I almost bought 2 sixers just expecting it to be different than it was. It was interesting for sure. I thought it was a very sour beer. I did like it, just not what I expected. I would probably buy a sixer each time it comes out.

 

see I really didn't get any sourness out of it, just a peachy flavor, and really juicy, it almost tasted watered down?

 

I think tart and bitter more than sour with a grapefruit flavor.

 

Huh, yeah, it's funny I didn't get the same thing from it. I thought it was both hoppy and sour at the same time. A lot of times I'll dislike the first beer that I try of one kind, then it dwells on my mind and I want another one. Then it seems to grow on my and I end up loving it. This one probably ranks up there like DFH Aprihop for me. Has a funky taste that kinda grows on you. I'll give this one some time and see what I think after trying a few more of the sixer...

 

Funny, the word Tart also came to mind to me while typing! That would be a good description as well. Tart and bitter at the same time.

 

were you drinking other beers along with it? that could have affected the taste of it, I was just drinking the freedom beer. we will be cracking open a couple more today maybe I will change my mind about it lol

 

Nope, my mouth was also totally void of outside influence.

 

i dont mind the case, i'll end up selling at retail to a couple of buddys, so i'll probably stay with 2 sixers. still though, i'm a fan of tart. here's hoping it's solid.

 

I think this beer is brilliant, if you can get your hands on this it is a must!

I really enjoyed '78. It had a very nice tart but juicy guava and papaya flavor to it. It had a nice bitter finish to it as well.

I strongly recommend this beer if you can find it! I wish I would have picked up more than one sixer!

 

Funny thing, I enjoyed the 2nd one much more than my first. I was thirsty after work and the tartness hit the spot. I also wasn't trying to overanalyze the guava flavor.

I had this a couple years ago and freaking loved it. Wish I could get my hands on a case of this stuff.

 

FWIW, I just picked up two sixers on Saturday in SW Michigan.

 

Freedom of '78 - man, this was good; I should have bought more than a sixer (back in the spring).
