No argument here. I was just answering the question posed by the thread. "How Hoppy Is Too Hoppy?"

It's impossible to literally be 1000 ibu..... it's just a name.
    wouldn't doubt it's in the 90's though.....

and I think it's a bit excessive as well.... diminishing returns

This is a matter of opinion. Palate Wrecker has been the hoppiest I've ever had and I loved it.

Might be old...might not be your thing. Funny thing is, I hear references to Stoopid, and say, Stone Ruination as being one dimensional and too much like sucking on hops; but to my taste, they are richly aromatic, multidimensional and just flat-out interesting/complex. Back to old problem trying to account for taste, which it seems, you just can't do. Like what you like, I guess.

    Me? Hand over the hops!

I love Shorts; they always put out some unique brews. This spring they had about 3 or 4 different IPA versions in bottles. While most people seemed to rant and rave about it, I thought Hopstashe was tough on my taste buds.

Drake's delivers the hoppy goodness. Palate Wrecker is unrefined in comparison.

Yes, some of their beers are quite bitter, but they are much more than just bitter. They are intensely aromatic and flavorful, but not rough for a true hophead. IMO, they are one of the most underrated breweries that still gets pretty good reviews. Three Floyds and Drake's could swap breweries and I'd be very happy with the switch, but I doubt the people at Drake's would want to move to Munster, IN.

Wait, do you mean too bitter? I can't imagine a too hoppy Citra IPA.

Nothing wrong w/ liking an over abundance of hops, but if you think it makes you more of a beer drinker than anyone else, then you are a fool.

I can't say I am a hophead, but I've really grown to love IPAs, DIPAs, etc. I think this is more of a 'hopping' concern. I love the hop aroma, and flavor, be it resinous, piney, grassy, citrusy. Hop bitterness is what makes or breaks the beer for me. Too bitter and I hate it. So when I get a good smooth clean IPA, I'm really happy. The DFH 60 and 90 are near perfect, IMO. But anything that burns my throat every time I take a sip... well, I may as well be drinking whiskey.

A beer hasn't been brewed that even comes close. When the mood strikes I want something that is gonna take the enamel off my teeth.

I completely agree on Palate Wrecker. Had to choke down the fourth one. Not for 2014.

Just had my first 2013 DD this year. The onion is there but less so than years past. Still like it. In one year a kick ass barley wine.

I still can't figure out Double Crooked Tree. So complex. Have one left. Big. Maybe I'll get there.

Maybe I'm in the minority here but found the 10th less enjoyable than other big DIPAs like Dorado. Too much.

Just posted in the Devil Dancer thread. Like I said in there... love the brewery and hop bombs alike. This one was just too much for me.

I tried my first barleywine yesterday (Avery Hog Heaven) and the IBU rating on this beer is 104. Not the most hop-filled taste I've ever experienced but it was somewhat overwhelming with the hops. I think the problem with beers like this is when hops is the ONLY freaking thing you can taste, it just doesn't seem enjoyable to me. Not too long ago I tried out Victory Storm King Stout and it's hoppy but I could also taste licorice, chocolate, with hints of vanilla and coffee. I would say its a much better beer than Hog Heaven.

I don't think I'll ever get used to those extreme hopped-up beers but I don't mind drinking one on occasion. There are some IPAs that I do enjoy every now and then.

Nah man it's not that, I am wondering if this is what it was supposed to taste like. I LOVE hop bombs like Ruination and Palate Wrecker
