It has a 10:1 had:review ratio, so the scores are a bit skewed by the ticks. It's only scoring about a 4.2 on full reviews. It's just not going to get enough reviews until the next batch to make a difference either way, so we're going to need to wait a while to see where it settles down...

Except that literally all of the mediocre/bad reviews are from the 2012 batch, not the 2013 batch. The average review (as opposed to tick) of the 2013 batch is substantially higher (albeit over a small sample size).

I would love to have a brew with this cbeer88. Sounds like a real fun chap! This guy probably buys the extended warranty every time he goes to best buy for a DVD.

I'm not even going to try to understand what discussing a beer's ratings has to do with buying extended warranties on DVD's, but whatever floats your boat I suppose...

The point is the market showed that you were off base and mike was on point and yet you continue to keep a myopic opinion even when proved wrong. It's akin to being so stubborn that once you are proved wrong statistically (extended warranties are a bad play) that you cannot admit when someone else was right, so they continue buying extended warranties out of habit and in spite.

The beer has had all of 5 reviews since I posted that 2 months ago. Let's get at least something resembling a critical mass before claiming statistical evidence...

I have no vested interest in this beer one way or another, and I've been right around here plenty of times, and wrong around here plenty of times. Jury is still out on this one IMO.

Nope. This discussion is more about tiny release beers in the middle of nowhere that the vast majority of people don't actually try, and then the impact of homer reviews on their hype. The question is "is Assassin a legit 100 beer or something less?"

I had the same argument.... Until I tried it.

Where the beer is brewed does not matter. Drink one then get back to us.

This beer is not commading stupid trades for no reason. I thought that at first, then I had one. The hype is there for a reason.

There is no one doing what Toppling Goliath is doing with their Mornin Delight and variants. Its a better version of CBS Imo.

I agree - when you are from the state where the little-reviewed instawhale in question is made, the correct response to a veteran poster's skepticism is mockery.

Well, I have you by a ways veteran-wise (though not cbeer) & am not from Iowa, & the mockery was damn funny.

On the other hand, I could argue that those who try to run down (or inflate) beers that have never touched their lips deserve all the public mocking they receive.

Do you feel the same way about the Bros, or about the mathematicians who developed the Bayesian estimator used to calculate the weighted ratings on this site? Because that's just a formalization of the intuitive skepticism expressed by many of the veterans around here who have seen this pattern repeat over and over and over.

I personally thought Assassin was decent and Mornin Delight was a better version of Founders Breakfast Stout.

What the two have traded for has surpassed any level of lunacy that a new beer out of the barn has on this site...at least since I've been paying any attention. MD isn't even barrel aged and it's 12 fucking ounces. lol Stuff like this is going to happen though at a release where you can buy like...exactly one 12 ounce bottle, brewery only, out in the sticks of Iowa...and you have tickers that need to get their hands on the stuff. Still...I've given up an unconscionable amount of good beer for stuff. Southampton Black Raspberry Lambic comes quickly to mind. I suppose if they eventually put out a batch over 10 cases and the reviews remain the same as more people outside of Iowa get to try it...it'll be hard to imply anything other than it's a great beer.

Generic skepticism is warranted & often healthy.

Constantly sniping at specific beers one hasn't tried is dumb.

That's as far as I can boil it down to avoid the need for a West Coast/Mid Coast translator.

Anyone think a West Ashley would pull a 13' Assassin 1:1?

Yes...it's damn delicious. But it can be argued that the beers it takes to land it are as good, or sometimes better...and with the quantity you have to give up to get an Assassin...I dare say it's often not worth it. For the record, I'm not a hater. I just don't think it's worth the price of admission at this particular moment.

I agree on Assassin (very good but not great) and definitely disagree on Mornin Delight. Mornin Delight is truly a great beer IMO (and for the record I had to trade for the bottle I drank as I have never been to TG).

I loved the Assassin too. I wouldn't think the price would be that high. (1200) bottles, the MD and KBBS at 300 each that is another story.

I traded out an Assassin for a Peche n Brett. You don't have to be greedy.
