Agreed that Tin Bucket is a good one to add. It should be noted that it's a beer bar and growler fill station only... so no food. But it's a block or two south of terrific restaurants like Tasty N Sons, Lincoln, Kenny & Zuke's Deli Bar and EaT Oyster Bar. Also HUB Bike Bar and Lompoc 5th Quadrant & Side Bar are very close by...

what about BEER on stark? 10 rotating taps, lots of bottles, food from Meat Cheese Bread and they host tap takeovers and other events.

There are probably about 200, what about x? Just kind of went with consensus favorites.

Yeah, I like the front page that way. Still think it makes sense for people to throw other ideas in too that don't need to be promoted to the front page.

Hey guys. I'll be coming to PDX in august, from the 14th to the 18th. Thinking about doing the Airbnb thing to stay somewhere cheaper/more unique than a hotel, but I'm wondering if we stay too far out on the outskirts of the city it will be a pain to get to the places we want to check out downtown. Would you not recommend staying in the Woodlawn/Mt Tabor/Goose Hollow areas? Should I look closer to downtown?

Check Trimet.org before booking and see how close your prospective rental is from a MAX/Bus station. You can get just about anywhere within the core of the city easily and relatively quickly using transit. Thoughts on those three specific neighborhoods:
    • Woodlawn is a bit further north than I'd probably go. It'll put you near Breakside, and relatively close to Saraveza, Bridgetown, and a couple other spots, but you'd be looking at a 20-40 minute bus ride to get to the downtown or eastside hot spots.
    • Goose Hollow is close enough to downtown that you can get to the buses and street car within a few short blocks, and depending on the house you may end up within walking distance of Deschutes.
    • Mt Tabor is an awesome neighborhood, though I'd suggest staying on the west side of the mountain below 60th ave. Depending on where you're at, you're just a few short blocks from the #15 (SE Belmont to NW 23rd), #14 (SE Hawthorne to downtown), and #4 (Division to Rose Quarter to NoPo) bus lines. Those three lines will put you within a few blocks of a couple dozen good spots including Hair of the Dog, Cascade, Deschutes, Baileys, APEX, BeerMongers, Horse Brass, Belmont Station, Cheese Bar, Upright, Widmer, Saraveza, Hop & Vine, The Commons, BEER, and more.
If it were me, I'd look for someplace within the following borders: 405 on the west, Killingsworth to the north, 205 to the east, and Powell to the south.

On a semi-related note: we're 3 days away from summer. Is it time to condense the useful bits of this thread into a "Visiting PDX summer 2013" post and retire the this one?

I second this. Especially as this thread was wine hijacked for a bit. Wife and I are coming to PDX first weekend in July.

A couple suggested Pub Crawl maps:
    Cascade > HotD > Bailey's > Deschutes > Upright > HUB/Side Bar
Inner SE Pub/Brewery Crawl (APEX -> Beermongers -> The Commons -> HotD -> Cascade -> Base Camp -> Burnside)
Sunnyside Pub Crawl (Horse Brass -> Belmont Station -> Hawthorne Hop House -> Bazi Bierbrasserie)
North Portland Pub Crawl (Amnesia -> Bridgetown Beerhouse -> Prost! -> HUB BikeBar -> Lompoc Sidebar/5Q)
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How safe is the city for walkers?

    This is a joke right?

Pdx is one of the most pedestrian and bike friendly cities around!
    Enjoy:slight_smile:
