I've got a dual tap Beverage Air BM23 in stainless. I picked it up from shortorder.com - they had the best price after about a month of shopping/comparing/etc.

Bevair (beverage air) probably has the highest quality, but most brands nowadays are pretty good at fitting both homebrew and commercial kegs. As was said earlier, troll craigslist. Keep in mind that many new kegerators are shipping with 2.5# CO2 tanks, which are next to worthless as most gas distributors do a tank exchange.

I own an Avanti. It's cheap and has issues but with the fixes it was still a lot cheaper than the good quality ones. My understanding is that's the norm for manufactured units.

How long will a tapped keg usually remain good (tasty), for periodic use at a household vs. retail bar. Any way to prolong it's life when used at a house with periodic use ?

Buying a fridge that only holds 1/4 or 1/6 kegs is not a way to save money. Those size kegs do not offer any value. If you are up to the task, the 1/2 barrel is by far your most economical choice.

    Easy there Cowboy...

I am finding much humor in the fact that the BevAir BM23-B supposedly has a "suggested price" of $3,385.00 on the site you list as your BA home page: http://www.kegerators.com/kegerators/3

Since I can get a BevAir Three keg box for $2,570.09 (with free delivery), your suggested price for a single keg box kinda goes out the window, eh? http://www.webstaurantstore.com/bev...-dispenser-69-3-keg-kegerator/185DD68C1B.html
