If you run into your first stupid person of the day at 9 pm, you work the overnight shift.

If I have to proof read who all you're trying to send an e-mail to and find an invalid address, you're an idiot
If I have to explain how MS exchange works because your e-mails don't instantly pop up when you log into a new computer, you're an idiot.
If I find an issue with an IP address that you typed in(too many octets, periods, or specifying the wrong port), you're an idiot
If you come up to me because your desk doesn't have power and I fix it by plugging it back in then you're an idiot
There are others as well but you get the idea...

If you work IT or even emergency medicine you will quickly lose faith in humanity and the survival of the species. Modern medicine and a lack of natural predators is the only thing keeping the stupid ones alive.

I'm also more familiar with that saying being used when determining if you're an asshole and I'll readily admit that I'm an asshole.

I've been employed as a paramedic and a sys admin. This statement is 100% correct. It's quite unfortunate and sad what the human species has done and is doing to itself.

The local news outlets are really glossing over the story and accepting the claims by the City of El Cajon that they will get paid in full. I think I'll just do my own write up and post it on my blog.

Then landlord dismissed the eviction lawsuit and there are no terms of settlement on the court's docket that I could see. This usually means that the tenant is cooperating and may have already turned over the keys.

I would say the fun is just beginning. As far as I know, the UT is the only local news outlet that is reporting on the possibility of the City of El Cajon getting hosed on the loan.

The El Cajon City Council is meeting today to consider some sort of settlement agreement with El Cajon Brewing Company. Here is a link to the agenda: http://www.ci.el-cajon.ca.us/content/city_council/04-23-13agenda_full.pdf.

One of the agenda items to be discussed is whether it is "appropriate $42,750.00 in order to disburse project management and administrative costs associated with the preservation and maintenance of Secured Property." I'm kinda scratching my head on this one. Does brewing equipment need to be "maintained" if it isn't being used? I can't tell if this is going to their legal fees or what the money is really gong to be used for.

Well, I guess you don't want rodents or the Swamp Thing setting up shop in the facilities, so there's that.

I stopped by the City Council meeting reviewed the documents. They are settling the lawsuit. The former owners of ECBC are completely walking away from the brewing equipment and all other fixtures in the restaurant. The settlement includes a waiver of any deficiency that might exist if they can't get the full payment from a new buyer.

They are also paying the landlord to store equipment. Of the $42,750 allocated, $20,000 is going for the City's legal fees. The rest is going to pay thing like the utility bills, maintenance, etc. This action is consistent with what the City officials have said publicly about working with the landlord to find a new owner/operator.

The San Diego County Taxpayers Association named the City of El Cajon as a finalist for the Golden Fleece Award: http://sdrostra.com/?p=33723

ECBC's location and equipment have been snapped up. Sounds like it will be a more stable fit than ECBC way, hopefully the residents of El Cajon embrace it.

Carl (or anyone else) - did Steve end up getting out of the situation without any ongoing liability?

Yes, Steve was able to get out without having to pay a time. I went to the city council meeting approved the terms of the settlement and I read some of the terms from the public documents.

The settlement agreement provide for Steven to immediately walk away from the building and leave everything behind. In exchange, he got a complete walk on any of the $600,000 that he had personally guaranteed. The City was paying the landlord to "maintain" the premises.

It would be interesting to know how much the new owners agreed to pay.

If my sources can be trusted, El Cajon was trying to get Manzanita to come take over the place. The problem was that El Cajon really wanted someone to commit to keeping a restaurant there and the owners of Manzanita wanted to stick with their current model of bringing in food trucks.

So far, this seems like a good fit.

Unreal. I'm a little sad to see the ECBC saga come to an end without any further dramatic developments, but I'm sure another clusterfuck will come along sooner or later to pick up the slack.

Thanks for your insight throughout the process, the frequent and thorough updates were much appreciated.
