Malt liquor fans?

Anyone else feel like things got out of hand when the whole "ice" craze hit the malt liquor world?

I recall some malt liquor specific lingo. In my part of the world, Olde English 800 was sometimes called an "8 Ball" and a 22 oz. bottle wasn't a bomber, but rather a "double deuce."

 

All of the local breweries here in Jacksonville (FL) are brewing Malt Liquors for a friend. Some are aged on things like raspberries and smoked malt, or grape Kool Aid, or Beechwood, even jäger soaked oak chips. So excited for these wonderful disasters!

 

A 22oz bottle of St. Ides is most preferrably reffered to as a "deuce deuce", dawg.

 

It certainly has its uses. I've been known to drink a few 40s of malt liquor from time to time. I don't hate Colt 45.

 

Old English 800's, brown bag and everything back in the day. Man we looked cool when we were drinking them.

You ain't. Steel is one of my regulars, as well as Colt 45. Wish we could get St Ides & the Double Malt Colt locally, I have to trade for those.

 

I thought it was off the chain when "Dry Beer" hit it big, but here we are almost thirty years later with Colt Blasts, so Malt Liquor as a distinct category is doing a-o.k.

The Aardwolf brewery here in Jacksonville just brewed a small test batch of a raspberry smoked malt liquor to immolate a raspberry black-n-mild. lol. they did it for a guy that's leaving that is the number one rater of malt liquor

I used to drink malt liquor when I was younger to get a quick, cheap buzz. Now I drink for taste and buzz and malt liquor dies not satisfy the hop head in me.

 

Bruery brewed a malt liquor called Cornballer years back. They hopped it up to make it taste like a DIPA but still got an underlying nauseating sweetness. Had a terrible headache the day after.
