You mention alcohol level relative to price as a criterion which is somewhat sophomoric and to me irrelevant.
If I wanted cheap and high alcohol I'd buy rubinov, Caldwells (insert regional cheap vodka here)

For what you get and the quality, give me some HT.

"Velicoff." But isn't that a bit off topic? Shouldn't we at least be talking about malt liquor?

Seriously, I get that there's tension between intoxication and connoisseurship on a beer enthusiast site, but your haughty criticism here is misplaced. Alcohol content is a fundamental attribute of beer, and there's a strong correlation between alcohol content and price, so there should be no shame in discussing that in a beer price thread. Besides, the price/alcohol criterion wasn't even the thrust of my post. And to construe a comment about Dogfish Head beers as akin to degenerate vodkas is a bit of a stretch.

Dogfish beers as akin to degenerate vodkas? That made me laugh. I simply said alcohol content isnt relevant to determine value (or quality) Higher quality, not alcohol, justifies higher price. I don't drink beer for alcohol (I did when i drank budlight in undergrad) which is interesting because most of the beer I like is high in alcohol. It just so happens that the beers that I think taste good have more alcohol.

Damn, $5.99 for Old Raspy? That's impressive. Unfortunately, to my knowledge, they don't have Total Wine in the Houston Area.

I thought $3.99 in Texas was good, but you guys have us beat.

One little liquor store here has SN Bigfoot for $4.99 a four pack. Right now I'm about Bigfooted (bigfeet?) out, don't think I can drink another...

You mean like a $2.45 bomber of Chocolate Stout? Yeah... I got one of those... a local brew, can't recall the name... Maybe it wasn't that great...:stuck_out_tongue:

Must be local distro... Around here $8.99 is epic and I've only seen it at one store. Everyone else ranges $10.49-12.49. All Founders 4-packs are around the upper end of that range, although, this being end of season, I got FBS at $8.99 per 4 (and $42 per case). That puts it in Stone (case) category and below DFH ($52/case), which is, indeed, epic. But it's not normal price, so that does not qualify.

In these parts, you can have cases of SamA/Harpoon/SN for $24-26 almost every day. I'd only qualify Torpedo at that price as having a good quality/price ratio. The rest are sort of equivalent. In fact, SN can be had for half that for 12 probably for the rest of the month, so that's a good deal. Normal 12-pack price around here is $15.99-17.99... and, speaking of that, just saw Lagunitas (basic) IPA for the middle of that range. That's only a couple dollars more than the 4-pack or 6-pack. Same with Victory or SouthernTier mixed 12s (Smuttynose and Opa-Opa cost the same, but not the same quality). When a 12 is only $3-4 more than a 6, that's a great deal. But that's the point of buying quantity.

One more thing -- local Russian delis (that have a liquor license) sell almost all their collections of Latvian, Lithuanian, Russian, Ukrainian and Polish beers for between $2 and $3 per 1/2L. Roughly the same price for German 12-oz bottles, with a few exceptions. The unusual Czech lagers are at $4, as is Weihenstephaner, which is a rip-off. I did drink some pretty mediocre German beer at $2.39 for pint pop-top, but got good bottles for homebrew out of it.

Also, found a 28 pack of Boston Lager at Sam's for 23.99!! That's $.85 per bottle!!! I was astounded, and yes I carried one out. The package is now slightly lighter...

Cellars on Green Bay Road in Neenah, WI. Probably 3-4 cases when I was in there earlier in the week. Also picked up some Devil Dancer, that was definitely NOT $4.99....

lol, you gotta love how tastes are so subjective. For example Unibroue is mostly undrinkable and absurdly priced imo. I have so many friends who can't get enough. Cheers to diversity!

The Rodenbach Classic I bought today that was discounted to $7.80 for the six pack. I feel like such a winner after buying two six packs of that.

Have you compared the Unibroue prices to the prices of the Belgian ales it competes with? Yeah, absurd!
