Mexican Cake Info

Brewery and CBX for sure.

 

I figure this is as good a place as any to post my question about westbrook. Were the bottles of BA mexican cake hand filled? Are all of their bottles hand filled for that matter?

The reason I ask is an awesome dude sent me some BA mexican cake and the "fill line" in the bottles are all over the place. When I say all over the place I mean 1 looks ideal and the next looks like a short fill all the way down almost below the neck, like the "shoulder" of the bottle.

I have seen other small breweries like Jackie O's sell these short pour bottles at discounted prices or with a warning to drink them ASAP since they had more air in them. I am not pointing fingers and blaming Westbrook, I am just concerned if the integrity of my bottles is at stake and if its possible that they leaked in transit to me.

Side note: if they leaked, it is not obvious for me to tell because one of the bottles in the box was shattered and beer was everywhere, on every bottle. So it is not possible for me to tell if the liquid came from more than just the broken bottle. :/

 

If anyone has an extra Apple Brandy Mexican cake for trade please let me know. FedEx shattered the one that was coming to me yesterday. Really hoping to try this as I love brandy barrel beers.

 

They have a bottle filler, but it isn't automated and may by slightly variable. I think these were hand capped. Not sure about leaks, but most bottles are filled to mid neck level. Mike probably knows more about this, since he probably filled them.

 

If anyone can hook this dude up, please do! He's a good dude and great BA.

 

Mike you can let me know and ill swing by the brewery and snag your short fill bottles. You know, for the sale of the community. And since I sell WB, you know ill use them for samples. Yeah, samples. That's it.

 

I think you have to get in line. Many of us have already called dibs on Mike's allocation.

I had a good friend go by CCB, to try and get a bottle, when it was released. He lives like 5 minutes away from them. He walks up and asks for a bottle. The guy, says yeah definitely! You got the last bottle! Hands him a bottle. My friend looks at the bottle and it's empty. They both got a good laugh out of it. He said the guy was cool about it, just messing with him.

 

Am I the only one who doesn't think that's funny? I'd be pissed. I'm not surprised though, I've experienced some douchiness from Cigar City employees in the past. I love their beers though, so I delt with it. Most employees there were cool though.

 

I think its mostly good natured, I laughed my ass off one day when I went in on the first Growler Tuesday they did, asked if it had run out. The guy behind the counter was like "yeah man, sorry, all gone." I got a dejected look on my face, he smiled and said "nah man just fuckin with ya." It was Joey Redner. Lol.

 

Glad I saw this thread, my AB MC had a similar fill, didn't make it to the neck. I worried about leakage or recap problems.
