Should probably dump them now?? (disclaimer: I have not had these beers :sunglasses: )

IF thats still a result of the firing issue and the burned hops, they should have never served it in the first place and they definitely should have never accepted payment for it.

its called integrity. i'd like to hear their side w/out having to stop in (and pay) for a crappy beer to hear it.

congrats to them. If I had the $$$ to quit my day job and take a stab at a brewery this is where I would have gone. Tony P (of the restaurants) owns the building and seems like a great guy, that rarest of things, an understanding and accomodating landlord. Of the few neighborhoods in Denver not already served by a neighborhood nano or micro, Platt Park most needed a brewery of its own IMO. Now if they can only lure the Platt Park-ers a few blocks west of their South Pearl comfort zone!

The guys at Former Future seem to have their stuff together as far as planning goes. Plus I really like that location a lot. It's right by Pasquini's, too.

Tony P and his mom started Pasquini's; it belongs to their sister/daughter (his sister, her daughter) now.

If I understand correctly, and if Westword has been accurate over the years on this story, after some bitter intrafamily litigation, all the Pasquini's he owned around town have been re-branded Tony P's. I guess while he was at said Pasquini's on South Broadway he wisely bought the building across Louisiana from Pasquini's--we used to like to go to Bistro One which is now the Mexican restaurant referenced in the linked article. Buffalo Doughboy (bakery, sandwiches, coffee) is currently "temporarily closed for renovations" but also in that same building, and I think he owns the adjacent building where DiVino Wine & Spirits is.

So sorta related but not really...With the popularity of IPA's, how great would an all IPA brewery be?

    IPA's, DIPA's, TIPA's, etc.

I think you either move or open your own brewery. If it's the latter, I'll come down!

A neighbor and I have been talking about opening a beer bar over here after he retires from the AF. We haven't got brewing experience, but we do have beer drinking experience.

Palette would be dead after the first 3.

(It's essentially what visiting Three Floyds is like)

The fact that an all IPA brewery is a VERY real possibility makes me hate that term more and more. I wish we'd get away from calling everything with a lot of hops some version of an IPA. Between us calling everything with hops an IPA and the Brits calling a 3% bitter an IPA we've destroyed that term.

I would compare an all IPA brewery to Prost. Prost makes some great German beers, yes they have some contract brews on occasion, but if you do not like German lagers that much you will go once or twice to try things out. After that occasional visit you will not make it your brewery of choice. I do not frequent Prost for that exact reason. You will have the novelty concept, but brewing is all about experimentation and you can only do so much with a limited profile. Breweries like Black Shirt Brewing are doing something similar with their Red Ale Project, but the Red Ale is very broad term when you see what they do. I am not saying it will not work, but you are limiting your options and possibly limiting your audience.

    Along those lines....

Last night I went to Crooked Stave, Prost and Denver Beer Co. The first 2 were semi-busy, bordering on slowing down. Denver Beer was a packed house.

Yea, I get the concept and not saying it wouldn't work, it's just that IPAs are all about the hops and considering it's the one ingredient most people have an aversion to (for beginner beer drinkers) it's very risky brewing nothing but IPAs, unless you did a session, pale, IPA, DIPA... in fact Rickoli does this already. At least with wheat beers and lagers like Prost people that think hops taste like soap, they can still enjoy a beer.

But let's be honest, a huge draw for 90% of people that go to Denver Beer Co. is the location, view (huge patio), and crowd.

We aren't the only people showing up at breweries anymore, we're sharing space with the trendy hipsters who now want craft beer because they think it tastes better and it's latest craze, but don't want to dig deeper into beer like the beer nerd. They just want 'better' beer than AALs, and care more about atmosphere, crowd and location.

I'd say DBC's "scene" followed by the (admittedly good) Graham Cracker Porter tends to be their draw.
Good for them for making that happen.

Indeed, and I'm glad the Graham Cracker Porter is a somewhat regular now.

Yah, location is nice, but not the view. Prost's view is much better. My observation was just that CS and Prost have focused lineups, while Denver Beer does not--and they were busy. Correlation? Caustic? Eh....dunno

BTW, Prost is putting in a garage door facing I-25

Just to be clear, we're talking about the same hipsters that also love pounding PBR?

Granted, I am a total sucker for nelson sauvin hops, but I think Denver Beer Company's Incredible Pedal IPA is awesome. One of my personal favorite IPA's, honestly. That beer alone justifies DBC's popularity for me, even when half the stuff I tried from them were definite duds --that Rivierra Platte barrel aged saison, in particular was drain pour worthy

And I do think their set up is pretty great (especially since you can also bring your dog along).
