I stopped in 20 minutes ago, took me all of five minutes. No line. Lots of cases sitting around.

Oddly enough, homeless muling IS one of the actions that has caused MI beer nerds to keep releases silent. I am aware of and have seen some odd things. The type of behavior that happens at MI beer releases will catch up to your side of the country one day (if it already hasn't) and then you will be a self-proclaimed DB as well.

I saw the BW blog post a few weeks ago, had forgotten to put it on my calendar, and saw the thread here. Drove over on my lunch & grabbed bottles along with some Santas little helper.

Kudos again to BW for the 3 bottle allotment- enough to drink one, cellar one & trade one.

Only if the ratio of breweries to people goes down precipitously, which I don't see happening.

I work in education, so I have summers off. Took my daughter to the zoo this morning, got home and my wife, working from home today, told me to drive the whole 1.5 miles to BW and get back quick.

Or I'll call those people out publicly for their BS and not take the low road. It's just beer. I don't need to hoard it

So telling local friends about a beer so they can get a bottle before shouting it to the world on the interwebs is considered the low road and considered hoarding. Must be hard to be your friend considering how much of a moral high ground your are on in comparison to everyone else. Sure is easy to be judgmental on BA.

Intentionally keeping things secret so that you and a select few can get there first may seem rational, but I think it's shady.

It's not hard to be my friend at all. In fact I'm always making new ones by not keeping things secret

I think you're confusing the practices of Bells Brewery itself vs. the actual practices of the locals. They choose the silent releases to avoid a shit-show and tour buses of Chicago residents.

I don't know how you guys have put up with these bottle releases. I had to wait behind a guy for about thirty seconds as he was cashing out before paying for my three bottles. Time is money people.

There was a fair amount left, but they stated a lot had sold already. Also, for those going to try some this evening, they only have 1/6 kegs, so the likelihood of it kicking quickly is rather high.

I guess I don't understand how a release like this can be kept "secret." Bottleworks announced it on their website what, a couple weeks ago? And they've tweeted about it a few times as well. Are the Michigan breweries/bottle shops in cahoots with these uber-secret douchebag societies? It all seems so strange. Is hazing involved? Do you have to wear a hooded cloak?

Yeah, BW made no secret of this, just like every other bottle release in the Emerald City. I didn't make a thread about it because I didn't want to always be "that guy" starting "those threads."

Public announcements, no overhyping. No lines on release day. Walk in get your stuff, hang out, go home. Perfection. We know our shit here. Although I also think it has to do with PNW beer culture as opposed to the midwest/great lakes insanity.

Bells silent (not secret) bottle releases that you TRY to critique are a General Store (brewery only) release. Once the bottle hit the cooler...facing forward so everyone can see them... they are normally a 2-3 bottle limit. So all of the great Michigan craft beer drinking locals can score their allocations before it becomes a shitshow of tour buses from Illinois and homeless people with a fist fill of twenties!
