You should be able to get indigo imp in your area maybe even on draft. Cant recall the price on a 4 pack but less than $20. I would say blonde bombshell is a good place to start

Well I ran to the closest Lizardville and picked up a couple bottles you guys mentioned. There's actually a lot there you all listed, but I'll start with these and see how it goes

    Lindemans Cuvee Rene
    Petrus Aged Pale
    Jolly Pumpkin Luciernaga
    Rivertown Lambic
Kriek Mariage Parfait (2009 if that matters?)
and a Struise Pannepot for the heck of it- never had it before

They had a spot for Oro de Calabaza, but it was empty...

    Thanks again

Pannepot isn't a sour, unless its one of the infected ones from 2007

The Lindemans Gueuze is a great starter. The Luciérnaga is a Belgian pale actually so don't expect super sour but nothing short of excellent. Jolly Pumpkin is big on the funk, you will see that soon enough. Also the Petrus Aged Pale is quality stuff, appreciate it.

Have a great new beer journey!

Start with the petrus and then try the others. That one will pucker you a bit, but it's so good

+1. Petrus was one of the beers recommended to me when I was just starting to explore sours. Puckery but refreshing.

Ughhh- just noticed my receipt and they charged me $10.50 for the 12oz Lindemans- I think that's the 750 price... I guess I gotta go back tomorrow, lol

This thread has had my mouth watering for something sour or funky for hours and had me reminiscing about my first introduction to sour beers - Deschutes' The Dissident on tap close to 3 years ago. So with that, I think it's apropos that a bottle of The Dissident is awaiting me in my fridge.

OP - Cheers and enjoy your foray into new beer territory!

I have to watch the ring ups closely here. They are always wrong, except a lot of times in the buyers favor. I've had 4 packs ring up as singles many times.

If you really want to learn to appreciate something, you have to understand how good the good ones are by knowing how bad the bad ones are so I highly suggest trying them all so you can judge accordingly. If all you've ever had are world class lambics, how do you know how they differ from lesser versions and what makes them so special?

Absolutely...if it looks old, then definitely buy it.

You really should be writing this down because these guys are giving you great beers for their styles that you might be able to find in your local distro market. The styles in questions are my favorite styles and have been for almost two years now (thank god that IPA fad is over...). These beers, like all the BA monsters out there, can be pricey but also can be aged too.

For someone in Ohio, you should also look into Rivertowne Gueuze and Lambic (I believe that they are made in/around Cincy) too.

EDIT: Also start looking into good antacids too...Tums is just candy and I prefer Pepcid. Lactic Acid is a killer....feel the burn.

Liefmanns Goudenband-cheap and readily available. Even the cuvée brut is pretty solid.

Well Lindemans is a member of HORAL guess that would make them a traditional Lambic producer.
Your exclusion of beers with artificial sweeteners because how they taste to you, is like classifying cilantro as a soap instead of a herb
Also Cuvee Rene is sweetened now with Acesulfame Potassium

Belgian and American sours are great but don' t forget about Berliner Weissbier. I tried a handful for the first time this weekend and was very impressed.

Well I just called them and they said $10.50 is their price for the 12oz Cuvee...the $5.49 price I saw was for a Sam Smith's below it...

Isn't $10.50 almost twice what this should be?

    $11 for a 12 oz bottle of Lindeman's? Good lord that's extreme.

I also wanted to comment to add my voice to those few who have mentioned Tilquin Gueuze. I can't believe more people haven't mentioned it as a pretty easy to find and solid example of a gueuze. Also worth noting, they make the gueuze from a lambic base they get from Cantillon, so it's the closest you can get to sampling the standard-bearer for sour beers (imho) without paying exorbitant prices or going to Belgium.

Another one I thought was solid that I see on shelves fairly often is St. Louis Gueuze Fond Tradition.

The English word is "cooler". And it has no particular connection to sour beer. Fifty years ago every British brewery had a cooler.
