Hello there i recently took over as a manager of a restaurant in new jersey and was looking for opinions on what new beer to bring in. We try to support local breweries as much as possible. We currently carry Alagash White, Dogfish Head 60m, and Riverhorse Summer Blonde on tap. We carry the Brooklyn Local 1 and 2 as well as the Soriachi Ace 750ml bottles, then we have Brooklyn Brown Ale and IPA, East Coast Cricket Hill Lager and Paymaster Porter Ale (which is awful). I want to change out the summer blonde and most of the bottles we need better selections, any suggestions would be appreciated.

What part of NJ?... and I will say what I am sure plenty of others will respond with. Get Kane and Carton on your taplist ASAP.

Came in here to say that.
Definitely try to always have at least 1 Kane and 1 Carton on tap- support local (good) beer!
I'm partial to Kane Head High, Kane Overhead, Carton Monkey Chased the Weasel, Carton 077XX, Carton Red Rye Returning

Flying Fish would be a viable option as well. Their year round beers would be very palatable to a "restaurant" customer base.

I second the advice about Kane, carton, and ramstein. Head high would be a great beer to keep on throughout the year.

Agree with the Kane suggestions. i'll frequent any place that has Head High or Overhead on tap. And while it's nice to support local breweries, i wouldn't get too caught up in that, as your customers will want "good" beer from wherever it may be, over "local" beer.

    So far some great advice.

As to replacing the Cricket Hill Paymaster's Porter- it won't be local, but I'd go with Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald- one of the best in the country, and a huuuuuge step up in that slot. In some instances you are going to have to forego the local aspect and just focus on great selections.

If you want to keep the porter local, you could go with Kane's morning bell which is pretty good and a big step up from Cricket Hill's offering.

Hopefully this restaurant is up by me, and I finally get to try some of these beers!

Just make sure that whatever you pick, you rotate selections on a regular basis.

Kane/Carton/Flying Fish for NJ locals, then just try to get stuff so you have a sampling of various sytles.. imo a IPA/IIPA/stout/porter/belgian/sour of some sort/fruit beer, etc.

take a look at what the pourhouse does, or the blue monkey for an example of tap lists, also have a decent bottle selection but I wouldn't carry a ton of IPA bottles for the freshness factor, and i'd watch to see what consumers were doing in way of how fast a keg of any IPA lasts, you don't want to get a rep for having old IPA's on the lines, also if the turnover isn't too quick on any beers, think of reducing the lineup so things do turnover and you can get more beers on quicker. I dislike going to a bar one week then a trip back in 2-3 weeks and nothing has turned over, it's a sign that people don't come in and drink and that doesn't make for an atmosphere i want to visit often

Where is this place ? If it's close to me, I'll give you a good list. If it's far from me, I don't want it to be good because I'm tired of all the good beer places being far from me

If you click on his profile, it shows the restaurant in his homepage. Looks like it's in Union.

I'd suggest for locals you take a look at getting in on tap beer from two Jersey Breweries. The first I'd recommend is High Point Brewing and their Ramstein beers. All of the Ramstein beers are very well done German style beers and one or two of them are deservedly among the 10 best in their style in the ratings on this site. The second brewery I'd suggst you look at is Climax Brewing which does, in my view, really excellent beers as well but with a different style range than you'll find from High Point. If I was on one of my trips to Jersey and I knew, say from your web site that currently you had beers from one or both breweries on tap I'd probably go way out of my way to stop in. (But that web site better be pretty current... :-) )
