It puts BMC to shame and is the same price at most bars. So Yuengling is my friend

I would definitely drink it over any BMC product. Given another craft option though I would pass over Yuengling.

Hate being asked about this beer where I work.

Repeat after me: It doesn't cross the Mississippi

It's not bad, the only thing I choose it over is BMC, but that happens more often than not.

Is Shiner Bock available to you? For my palate there is a lot of similarity between those two beers. In other words, if you have tasted Shiner Bock to some measure you have tasted Yuengling Lager.

    Cheers!

"Good" is relative to style. People seem to forget that far too often. Yuengling Lager is a good AAL. No reason to disparage anyone's taste for them saying so.

Where I live, the other beers you list aren't even close to competitive on price like you mention. I'd rather pay $3 at a bar for a pint of lager than $5 or $6 for a Hoegaarden, Sam Adams, or Long Trail, and sometimes even Pilsner Urquell or SNPA, depending on my mood. Certainly over Guinness, Harp or Bass. I'd take a lager over a Heineken even at the same price. Of course, it's rare I order any of these at a bar, but your generalizations are not applicable everywhere, or to everyone, and that says nothing about a person's taste

Agreed, or if you like Yuengling Lager I'd think a Grain Belt Nordeast would treat you fine too, but unfortunately not a single Yuengling seeker has ever paid attention to what I say after "Unfortunately we cannot get Yuengling here in Nebraska or anywhere east of the Mississippi River." By the time I say, "something similar" they are out the door..

    Nope, not me.

I've lived in Yuengling country for all my life, so here is an honest assessment. Back when I was a kid, Lager was not around, Yuengling Premium was the flagship and it was known as swill. Fast forward, years later Lager was introduced and became a hit because it was cheap and it was a "solid" lager, much more tasty than BMC and it was hip. Is it a great beer? No. Is it a decent beer that kicks the crap out of BMC especially when fresh? You betcha.

Mix that in with their porter and Lord Chesterfield and Bock and they have a "drinkable" lineup that is cheap and readily available in our area, especially when nothing else is available but BMC.

That's Yuengling in a nutshell. Solid but far from spectacular, but a lifesaver in a pinch.

Ps. Lord Chesterfield is their tastiest beer, nice hop bite.

    ^^I get this

What I don't get his how I have people from PA, OH, and FL asking for it in a half-crazed state as if it was better than life itself and when I say No, they immediately jump into telling me how it is the best thing since sex as if I don't already know everything about the beer.

I know of someone that brings home 2 kegs and 6-8 cases MULTIPLE times a year from when they visit relatives in FL.

edit: Talking about Yuengling Lager, I get the feeling most of them don't even know they make other beers.

Well, I'm convinced. You can have all the Yuengling that you want. I stand corrected on all the alternative suggestions. But please, please stop praising its fine qualities. That crosses the line...

Why do you care? You don't drink it on purpose. Nobody makes you drink it. So why do you care if someone else you don't even know likes it and says so?

I don't give a rat's ass what they drink... I just want the bandwidth to be free of static.

It's not your bandwidth. And you don't pay anything to use it your self, so get over it.

A guy I know from Oklahoma enthused that it was his favorite beer in the world. He was on my left while the guy on my right discussed his love affair with Unibroue, his hatred of DFH, and his surprise when I told him there were breweries in California. It was a confusing conversation...

Can't say I like Lord Chesterfield though. Tried it once and never again.

I personally don't like it, funny that a beer I drank 30 years ago is now popular in NC and in a lot of places. I'd rather drink Miller Lite.

When people say "Yuengling" nowadays, they usually mean the amber lager, which is only 26 years old. If your '30 years' date is precise, you were probably drinking Yuengling Premium, which is incontestably swill.

Only the Amber here, and it's on tap everywhere. Actually much longer than 30 years so it probably was the premium. We drank mainly Rolling Rock Ponys that is shit too, but for $3.50 a case it was on.
