We'll just have to agree to envy each others vintage loon ware.

I can't speak for those listed on eBay. I've been dealing with 2 people. One a really good friend who moved there a couple years ago from San Diego, and the other some old collector who has a bunch of random stuff. I've compared glasses from both people and they're spot on. Quality Italian glass, some even slightly yellow from being so old. Their antique shops and flea markets are flooded with them.

I wish I came across some during my brief trip there. Off topic but I'm also curious about putting my wavy hitachino glass up on ebay with an insane reserve just to see how high the price would go.

I think it mostly has to do with their now being a market for these glasses. When I first started buying them on Ebay.be, I could get two or three glasses for less than five dollars, rarely if ever was there someone else bidding on them. Even today, I still pay more for shipping a box of glasses than I do for the content.

I'm just going to pretend they're all fake until I get some and then they'll be real to me.

Yeah, especially for Belgian breweries that have been around (and had a tradition of nice glassware) for awhile, the sheer number of unusual/vintage glasses out there can be... daunting. Economically I kind of doubt anyone is making much fake glassware*, since other than etching and decals, minimum orders for screenprinting are in the 36+ piece range and it seems like it would get noticed if one person was trading/selling that many identical vintage pieces.

Ask where your glasses came from! Then, be a total nerd and attach small tags to all of your not-in-regular-use glasses detailing their specific history. I know I do...

*: All the culprits I can think of offhand are distributors/bars, e.g. the Fantome teku, that weird short Cantillon chalice, the original zig-zag Fantome tulip, etc.
