Why not more hype for Bruery Bryeian?

They don't need more hype, shits expensive as it is! Great brews but expensive.

We get it. You don't like The Bruery's prices and you're spooked by the infection issue with Ebony and Oak and the potential problem with this year's White Chocolate.

What you seem to be ignoring (or are perhaps unaware of) is that The Bruery's response to the Ebony and Oak problem was comprehensive, inclusive, prompt, and about as painless as such a process could be.

EDIT: Here's a link to the thread about the Ebony and Oak recall. It seems to me that they owned up to the problem quickly and went to great lengths to make it right. That hardly sounds like "rolling the dice" to me, but your mileage may vary.

9.99 isnt that bad for a bruery beer and a 750.

For a beer that is 7% alcohol, and not a premier style (think IPA, IRS, barrel-aged something-or-other, sour), that's a lot of money. Almost $30 for a six-pack's worth. That's comparable to, well, nothing really. Even by the bomber, Sculpin is way cheaper, for example. Things like Expedition are far less expensive. The only thing comparable to THAT price is Bourbon County Stout, and that has more than twice the alcohol content, AND it's a barrel-aged stout.

I dont think about all of that. I just think 10 bucks aint bad for a 750 lets try it out.

What? Am I missing something here? If it was $9.99 for a 750ml around these parts, it would be the cheapest 750 on the shelf...

I'm sure it's not $9.99 here, especially considering that Rugbrod and Tradewinds both go for more more than $10. I'm also sure that there are plenty of cheaper bombers/750s of comparable ABV stuff that are cheaper. Off the top of my head, large formats of Board Meeting and Merry Monks both go for less than $10, and both are higher in alcohol.

    I was the OP.

I did answer the question specifically of why I care. Perhaps you didn't make it down to the last paragraph?

Because Wookey Jack does it better, for less money. It was a good beer but it'll be gone soon, while Wookey will always be around and delicious.

I read that only California and Colorado would be getting the beer.

Had it last night, and while I thought it was very good, there are other CDA's that I'd rather have over this one. The rye was a very nice touch, but in no means was this a beer that deserves a lot of "hype" around it, in my opinion. Still, I'd get it again, but wouldn't go out of my way for it. Here's the pic from last night

I have absolutely zero interest in the beer based on price for the style alone.

    What makes a 7% black IPA worth $10 a 750?
    nothing.

Has any brewery ever had a hyped up black ipa? Even James from Hill Farmstead which came out a time when Shaun Hill could pee in a bottle and it would sell on ebay for 500$ got basically zero attention.

Why do you want it hyped? Are you looking for some type of validation of your tastes from other beer geeks?

Maybe it is great. My track record with the Bruery is quite poor so there is a 90% chance I won't like it.

Well this got my interest, so I looked it up. Meh, it has only three reviews, one stellar, one very good and one good. ( I do not count "hads" because "hads" tell me nothing, for all I know they could be rating the label on the bottle )
If I see it at a discounted price I might give it a go, but nothing I've read so far gets my attention past that. Even the OP's description is vague, looks good and has a bitter aftertaste and a creamy mouthfeel is all I get there. Not the sort of thing that creates a Wale IMO

I went to the Bryeian release party here in Colorado a few weeks ago. It was fun to try something that started out as a homebrew competition entry, and it was certainly one of the better Black IPAs (Cascadian Ales, whatever) I've tried, but it wouldn't be something I'd rush out to try again. There are several superior Black IPAs readily available on shelves (the Wookey Jack mention above is spot on, and it's half the price), and the Black IPA is kind of a bastardized hybrid style to start with.
