Say the market isn't interested in the taste of the beer and pull it permanently!

I'll have to see what the prices are like around here. I like the beer quite a lot, but I'm not too keen on paying that kind of price for it.

I used to be able to pick up a whole case for around $40.

So one out of a million breweries considers lowering prices and that's suddenly a trend? Beer prices are as high as they've ever been and since most of us don't bat an eye at paying 12+ for a bomber of some quality product I don't see them lowering anytime soon.

an overnight 78% increase is pretty steep. I guess I'd look at it this way:

Perhaps their street price is undervalued? Is the street price expensive? sure. Would you pay $5 for a pint in a bar? I sure would. $5 a pint is $15 a 4 pack. The brewery sees that as potentially missed revenue.

taking a step back to look at the bigger picture: For breweries, maybe it's to the point where they're trying to max their worth at the retail level in relation to their worth at the bar level? They SEE how much others (distributors, retailers, flippers, traders, scalpers) are making off their labor. Think of it as the Rolling Stones charging $350 for their tickets, when they'd be more than happy with $200, because they know a lot of people will pay $600 to a scalper.

For the consumer, I think it ends up being a case of "Change is hard." People have been complaining about how 22oz bombers are a rip off. Perhaps this is the brewery's response? "you think bombers are a rip-off? That's fine. It may be true. Instead, we'll sell you a 4pk at the same price as a 6. Is that still too high?"

Would you buy a growler from your favorite brewpub for $12-$15 then take it to your table because 4 pints cost $20 at retail? I dont think that would go over very well with the brewer.

I paid $9 for a bomber of Enjoy By. That equates to $19 a 4 pack. $29 a 6 pack. Would I do that again? Yes. Am I stupid? My wife would say yes....but Im thirsty....and I like it (a lot)...and I'd do it again if I had the opportunity.

Founders is making up for it by selling Inspired Artist Black IPA which is an amazing beer and 7.5% for 8$ a 6 pack at Meijer's in Michigan. There's no way you find a better beer deal and price for the quality of beer you get

There's a whole thread about this in the Beer Releases forum. Red's Rye is a decent beer but I won't be buying it at that price. IMO Founders has killed Red's Rye with the huge price increase.

Id rather me some Ruthless Rye either way! But if you don't like the price don't buy it. The consumer wields the power.

Last year i was buying Red's Rye for $32/case. Since its now the same SKU as Breakfast, Imperial Stout, Double Trouble, etc. it will now be at least $55 for me, likely more for you.

As high as they've ever been? Adjusted for inflation, most craft beer is actually cheaper now than it was 15 years ago when I first started drinking it. I was regularly paying $7-8/6pk for stuff like Bells, New Glarus, and Summit in the late 90's. Honestly, I'm fucking shocked at how resistant to inflation this industry has been.

Honestly I am not impressed with this beer. I had a couple bottles that were less than a week old, and it was meh at best. But thats just my opinion, and I love rye beers.

Founders has a whole have priced themselves out of my buying, it's good beer yes but there is so many other options now at lower prices and compare taste wise I'm happy to spend my money elsewhere

One thing no one has said, and few people ever notice, is the correlation between a brewery expanding their production and/or buying new equipment and price increases.

In this case Founders, but insert any brewery in their position, didn't pay cash for all that new equipment, staff, and space. The company answers to the bankers who gave them the loans. They (Founders) proved their market share and future revenue to get said loans. Raising the price, in theory, will only make them more money above and beyond already set in stone revenue projections. Look at the timeline of Founders expanding their barrel program, and then doing "KBS Day". Same year. All this is not a coincidence.

I feel if lagunitas can sell hop stupid for 5 dollars a bomber or 5 bucks a bomber for their imperial stout, so can everyone else (minus vintage blends and barrel aging)

That's funny, I haven't seen any recent price increases from Sierra Nevada, New Belgium, Oskar Blues, or Lagunitas, all of which not only expanded but are building entirely new facilities.

I'm not a fan of the whole 4-pack deal. I know I've probably passed on some really good beer but given the option of a 6-pack of something really good vs. a 4-pack of something really good I'm almost always going to go for the 6-pack. I absolutely loved Green Flash before they went to 4-packs but haven't bought any since. I've also passed on a few limited/seasonal releases too. I'm not trying to make a point with my purchases, I'm just trying to maximize my dollar. Plus, there are so many good beers out there to try, so I'm not worried about passing on some of them.

Sierra, New Belgium, and Lagunitas have yet to complete those projects, but all three are cost cutting measures on the whole. We could hash that for hours. But I totally see your point in the response to my post.

Oskar Blues has raised prices (you may not notice year to year) the past 4 years as they expanded the Colorado brewery. Dales was $7.99 a sixer as little as 3 years ago, it's now $10 in PA in NJ at the stores I shop at. Yeah yeah, inflation. Sierra Pale was $7.99 3 years ago too.

Maybe I'm wrong. I'm not, but for anyone who disagrees, pretend I said "You're right!, I'm wrong!" and we can all get back to drinking $5 sixers of PBR tall cans.

    I'm out.

Love Founders beer but not their prices. We need to start a boycott of all of Founders over priced beers. If we could all come together and not buy it eventually the stores will discount it.
