Seeing that I can't find consistent advice on the interwebs as to those who have used a yeast starter to brew the Surly Furious Pro Series kit from Northern Brewer, thought this would be a good place to get some (better) advice.

Simple question with regard to making the yeast starter with a stir plate - how far in advance of boiling the wort on brew day, how much liquid malt extract to use for yeast starter, how much water, and allow yeast pack to incubate for 3 hours prior to pitching, or pour right in after opening?

Thanks so much for your help!

Put in your package date, expected OG, volume, etc... It will tell you what size you need.

Then use the handy little calculator on the left of the screen to tell you how much DME to add.

There is not a singular answer, it is based upon the age of your yeast.

If you plan to pitch the whole starter into the beer wort, then 24 hours is probably a safe lead time. If you plan to let the starter run it's course and then cold crash and decant it, I'd add 48 hours.

I have brewed this beer twice, once extract and once all-grain. I have never used anything more than a smack-pack of WY 1227. I know that is not the yeast it calls for but it is my house yeast. We had excellent fermentation from the smack pac.
