I'm probably most interested in Bagby's venture.

It will be nice to finally see the La Jolla Brewing Company become, like, an actual place to enjoy craft beer. I'm skeptical how well it will do with the Public House nearby, but alternatives are always nice. Not sure where they are going to have people park, though.

If a bubble pops in an industrial warehouse area of San Diego, can anyone hear it?

I'm most excited about Urge: Craft Alley (since it's less than 5 minutes from my house) and Bagby Beer (since that's also close by and Jeff is a master).

I'm also excited about Toolbox Brewing, a new nano-brewery that should be up by the end of the year.

Nickel Brewing, there's just something about desolation that make guys brew excellent trek-worthy beer.

Nickel Brewing because it's in Julian and I've never been. I have a friend who grew up in Julian and always said I should visit when near San Diego.

I'd guess that most if not all of their offerings will make it down the hill from time to time.

Bagby is probably the one I'm looking forward to the most, with Urge Craft Alley a close second.

I also just read where Indian Joes in Vista is going to move to a 21,000 sq foot space and 30 bbl system. That is more shocking then anything I've seen in awhile. That's a monster jump from a brewery that doesn't seem to have the hype to go that far.

Bagby for sure. I'd like to say I'm indifferent to all these new breweries but Societe and Modern Times are both quite new and I am big fans of both.

The explosion of breweries is mind boggling. Hard to be a regular anywhere anymore.

most of the new guys I'll revisit in a year.

It may already on its way back down. A majority, a large majority, of the proposed breweries are in the "looking for a location" stage. I'm thinking quite a few may decide to get out before they actually find a place.

I wonder how many of these breweries started with a well vetted business plan.

Mike Hess Brewing most definitely has one. I think the folks at Modern Times though things out pretty carefully, too. A lot of these other people listen to their muses, so even if the financing was solid I doubt the business plan aspect was that well thought out.

Unfortunately not all of the new breweries are making great beer. Some people are only in it for the money or mistake sales numbers for equalling a quality product.

I see breweries like Mike Hess, Societe, and Modern Times as having an understanding of how money is made in beer and a long term business plan. There are so many of these new breweries that seem like they run the business on the side or have some other occupation. Id love to know how many of the people who open breweries consider the business as their sole source of income.

In your opinion, which of the new breweries are not making good beer, and which of those were in it only for the money?
