No kidding. Maybe it's just me, but it's tasting especially good this year.

    Ayinger
Paulaner Wiesn (I can find the amber maerzen in pubs year-round so I don't count that one)
    Augustiner Oktoberfestbier (very clean)
And I can find the Hofbrau if I look hard enough, but I've never really been a fan.
I remember liking Great Divide Hoss in the states, but that one's a bit of a different take

That's what I consume muchly each year. The latter bei g a ridiculously great deal at $6.99 for a six of pounders and not giving In To the excessive maltiness that many American versions seem to

Yep. Those two are pretty spot on. Summit's is really nice as well.

I love this style. I actually look forward to Autumn, the shittiest of seasons, because of this.

Summit Oktoberfest. Not only my favorite Marzens, but one of my favorite beers.

And I'm not a Summit fan to be honest.

According to my tasting tonight, it was Weihenstephaner's Oktoberfestbier (formerly Festbier), followed closely by Paulaner Oktoberfest Weisn and Boulevard's Bob's '47

none ... they easily are the most underwhelming seasonal i've tried so far (Karbach, St. Arnold, Samuel Adams and Paulaner -- all decent enough, but nothing about them stands out)

in the age of refrigeration, is there a point to these things?

I'm with you. SA has some great beers, but the best ones are always the most difficult to find or come in mix packs. I don't think the Octoberfest is bad, but I know that they can do better. The same is true of the Winter Lager--it's not bad necessarily, but it's terrible compared to all of their other winter beers, especially Fuzzywig and Doublebock. I'm curious as to why they this seems to be a pattern with the company, and I wonder if they assume that the average beer drinker won't appreciate the more bold offerings.
