My wife and I spent 6 days in Portland recently and had a kick ass time.

    Favorites:

Zoo (mothereffin' lions, tigers, and bears)
    Self service water everywhere
    Cascade sours
Hair of the Dog Fred from the Wood
hop and vine bacon wrapped dates
    stumptown
    Powell's (a touch overwhelming)
    clyde common's barrel aged negroni
potato champion's pbj fries (most unnecessary food item I've ever eaten)
    Lardo
    Tasty n Alder (unbelievable brunch)
bailey's taproom's draft board (and outlets for phone charging)
Upright across the board (the pilsner was stunning)
    Pfriem's Mosaic Pale Ale
    Laurelwood's fresh hop IPA
    Pok Pok (everything)
    The Commons (awesome guys)
    Grain & Gristle (sick burger)
    Easy to use public transportation
Imperial bottleshop (blichmann beerguns for taps...what?)
and most of all, everyone was friendly!

Can someone explain the self service water to me? Are those fountains actually safe to drink from?

Just wanted to thank everyone again for this thread as it was helpful on my visit a few weeks back. I hit up HUB, HOTD, Amnesia, Hedge House, Deschutes. I enjoyed the beer list at Henri's. I had tasty wings at Pok Pok and cheap tasty pizza at Sizzle Pie. The GF and I also spent a few days in Astoria and enjoyed FT. George, Rogue and Wet Dog. I was bummed I couldn't hit up Cascade and Upright but we just ran out of time. Thanks again!

Apex just booted me because I didn't have my passport to go along with my drivers license. Now, while this may in fact be a law, it seems like something that doesn't regularly get enforced. I was there the other night and there were no issues. In fact everywhere I've been that asked for my ID has been perfectly content with just that. Ah well, went to Beermongers instead (for like the third time) and it was great.

To the best of my knowledge, this is not the law. Either/or is usually sufficient, every place I've been.

Still, this quite surprises me, as Apex is well known for their outstanding customer service and consideration when dealing with customers. I'm shocked to hear that this happened to you (yes, this is sarcasm).

I'm pretty sure places can refuse any ID they aren't comfortable with.

I'm sure you're right, but of course that's not what I was talking about. KeKeKumba indicated he was wondering if this was typical behavior and/or the law in Oregon. In my experience, it's neither.

    You would say otherwise?

I'll also say this... any place else but Apex, and I would be surprised to hear of a bar doing something like this. However, at Apex, I consider it par for the course.

I initially thought maybe he couldn't find the birth date as that's a problem with nearly everyone who asks me for ID anywhere in the US. They eventually find it or give up and everything is okay. Regardless, asking for a passport seems like an easy cop out to get rid of us.
