All of them. I like going to different states because it gives me a chance to try the local brews. The country's changing for the better and the day is rapidly approaching when the US's Budweiser stigma will be a thing of the past.

this may be the only time in a long time that I have heard anybody say the country is changing for the better and they be %100000000 percent correct. I do love traveling to different states and trying local breweries it is always a highlight and talking to other brewers and learning from them is amazing experience

To answer the actual original post , mention France and I think of wine. Germany and it's cars.Scotland and it's whisky. And Belgium immediately speaks to me of beer. California and it's oranges (and syrup of figs).......I can think of no other place than Belgium where the first thing it suggests is beer.

Whatever state I'm in that's my reality. For me know when I think craft beer I think Missouri, because it's my closest access point to great beers.

Wisconsin. Bunch of stupid cheeseheads and beer drinkers. I love New Glarus though.

I agree with others that there's no state that, when mentioned, induces most people to think first and foremost about beer. But if I'm asked to name the one state that is most thoroughly saturated by a thriving, vibrant, pervasive beer culture, the answer is clear: Oregon.

for me it will be Colorado. That's where I gained my love for craft beer. As mentioned, the governor Hickenlooper made it in the biz. I live in California but I'll consider California the wine state.

To the general US population, or at least those who have an elementary level understanding of US geography: Missouri (Bud), Colorado (Coors), Wisconsin (Miller, Pabst, Schlitz).

To those on Beer Advocate: any US state that wasn't a part of the Confederacy. (and also exempting Utah for it's state church)

    To the world's population: Germany/Bavaria

I don't know about everyone else, but when I think of Vermont I think of craft beer drinkers.

When I think of "beer", the first state that comes to mind is Massachusetts. I would think it would be Colorado or California, but the first one I thought of was MA.

I don't think of any state that way. Every state has beer, but none stand out as such, atleast for craft beer. If any places are gonna immediately bring beer to mind, they're Belgium and Germany.

Word association (first thing that comes to mind):

    CO: beer, skiing, weed
    WI: cheese, beer, badgers
    VT: syrup, woods, beer
    MA: liberty, Sam Adams, peninsula
    OR: hipsters, doughnuts, beer
    MO: mizzureh, fields, arches

So I guess Colorado was the one that made me think "beer!" first. Maybe it's because I live here, maybe it's because it's where I was the first time I heard the word "microbrew" when I had a taste of Fat Tire while visiting my brother (I was in college in Ohio at the time) and the rest is history, maybe it's because I just served for three sessions at Great American Beer Fest this past weekend...I don't know. It doesn't really matter.
