Not sure how long it's been priced there but I know the previous time I was there it was about $14. Of course they were out of stock - but check your local Jewel. Hope you have better luck than I. Let us know if you find it at that price.

Is this a question or a statement? What is this?

Sorry. Improper use of the ? there. It is a statement. Was just at jewel in Wood Dale IL and the sculpin tag showed $8.99 but was sold out.

6 packs? Sure it wasn't bombers? I'd actually buy this stuff finally at that price for a sixer.

I've never seen Ballast Point in bombers at Jewel, and it was in the same spot that the 6 pack was when I've priced it before. I'll verify when I go back to the store (prob check again tomorrow because I want to ask if they're getting more in stock soon) but I'm next to certain this was the six pack price.

condolences, I'm fortunate to have a Jewel down the street that has a pretty decent craft selection. Lagunitas, Stone, Bells, Great Lakes, Ballast Point in decent supply. They just added Widmer Nelson DIPA at $5 a bomber, may try that next.

Yeah we have everything you mentioned except Ballast Point. I've found some decent deals there too, 4-pack of GI Christmas Ale for $2.49, for example.

Jewel sometimes has good clearance deals. Gotta check the bottling dates/codes though. Some are o-l-d.

Are you all from out of town? It's "The Jewels," not Jewel! :stuck_out_tongue:

It must be a south side thing. Grew up in the burbs, and have lived on the North and West sides for 10+ years. I've never heard Jewels.

It's not a south side thing; it's a generational one, with some degree of blue collar-ness to it as well.

My ancestors hail from the Wicker Park-Bucktown Polish enclave of the '40s, '50s and '60s; I grew up in Lyons in the '70s and LaGrange in the '80s. My dad and uncle (a USPS employee and city cop, respectively) have ridiculously old school Chicago accents and are prone to remark that they're "going to the Jewels to buy a couple two tree things." As do/are all of their friends from childhood.

But friends of mine from Libertyville and Waukegan recall this usage, as does my wife, who is from NW Indiana (okay, that's basically the far south side, though her dad was a Cubs fan).

Of course, a friend who lives in Beverly says people still talk that way in her neighborhood....

Never heard of "Jewels" until now. Been going there since I was a wee lad- 50 years ago (5 years old. About the same time I had my first unforgettable sips of beer!)

My Dad grew up in Stickney. Down by the sanitation plant, over by there. He has 3 brothers (or perhaps I should say brudders). When the 4 of them get together it's straight out of an SNL sketch. I have an uncle who've we've called "Uncle Moose" since childhood for Christ's sake. Most of my extended family speaks fluent "Chicago-esse." The Jewels is one of the more acceptable phrases uttered during normal family conversations.
