I had to sleep on the couch for a week because I left my family at home on a holiday weekend.

Just my opinion (and lots of other people) but.....to each his own. The world would be a pretty boring place if we all liked exactly the same things. I would welcome, however, your criticism of it, assuming that you just don't like the style.

You missed his point. By adding up the total cost of every aspect of your trip, and then assigning that total cost solely to the bottles of DDG you got, you are implicitly stating that no other part of your trip had any value to you - would a weekend trip to SD to spend time with other beer nerds be completely worthless to you if you didn't leave with any DDG? It doesn't sound like it, in which case you can't assign the entire cost of your trip to just those bottles.

Cash spent = cash spent. (Though I wouldn't include the cost of meals above what you would have spent on food anyway during the time spent on the trip.) No matter how much you value the intangibles, your bank account will still reflect what you spent.

Cost of acquiring a DDG bottle, $90. And then, ok, time spent with SD beer nerds, priceless.

Here is my response to him in reference to that statement.

Not what I said. I am stating that if all the costs for the time it took to get the beer are added in, then the cost for a bottle far exceeded what I paid for them. I go over to Lost Abbey several times a year even though I am fortunate enough to get their products here, because I enjoy being at the brewery and talking to all the other patrons and great employees there. What I was saying is that if you could not put in the time and effort to get a bottle or two like I did, do not complain about the price. I wanted DDG and was willing to put in the time and effort to do so. At 90 plus a bottle you are paying for someone else putting out the effort for you. Sheesh, that's the problem here, someone always thinking they know your intent. Never in my post did I state I was let down or disgruntled, or did not enjoy the experience. I was simply pointing out the total cost involved in obtaining the beer.

I guess your right. You SHOULD start reading the whole thread.

Wow.. I try to show how all the time and effort that goes into this adds intrinsic value to the beer and all I get is morons coming out of the woodwork to say I was really bummed with my experience. I think it is you and all those who don't understand the time effort and money spent in order for me to get the DDG has no meaning. It has nothing to do with whether or not I enjoyed myself. Good Lord. People are ranting about paying 90 dollars for a bottle and you give me shit for enlightening them on the effort it took to get it.... Wow...just...wow....

That's not at all what I (or anyone else, as far as I can tell) said. Nor am I attacking you personally, so I don't see any need for you to start throwing out insults.

You are justifying someone charging $90/bottle by saying "well if I add in all of my expenses for the weekend trip I took to get these bottles, it comes out around $90 each. Therefore, $90 is not an unreasonable price to pay."

What I'm saying is that you paid $90/bottle to take a trip, visit a place you really enjoy, and come home with some rare beer. Anyone buying DDG from the bottle shop charging $90 is paying that much and only getting a bottle of beer.

By equating the two, you are implying that it is true that nothing other than the bottles you came home with are of any value to you - a claim which, based on your own statements about enjoying trips to SD and Lost Abbey, is obviously false.

So you would agree with the statement that an average college education holds exactly as much value as a new Ferrari?

DDG for 2X over release price. Cantillon in the US runs 3-5X over release price. Sounds about right.
