After reading all these replies, listing all the stellar beers from Great Lakes, I am realizing how much I take them for granted. They are in all the bars around me, but I usually seek something "sexier" or from some exotic brewery. It is nice that just about every non-craft bar will at least offer one of their beers. Easy choice over any BMC shandy apple ultra lime ale abomination.

    Alchemy Hour

    Followed very very closely by:
    Nosferatu
    Rye of the Tiger
    Blackout Stout
    Edmund Fitzgerald

I should note I have yet to try their Christmas Ale. Hopefully this year.

I am drinking a GL Christmas as we speak. How is that for timing? Definitely my favorite GL a holiday tradition for 5 years. I also love edmund Fitzgerald and Burning River. Alchemy Hour also makes its way there, probably # 2. Great brewery with many great memories of and linked to their beer. Cheers!

I've only had Eddy Fitz which I enjoyed greatly. But, after drinking a Short's Pilsner, I'm on a pilsner kick, so I'm very much looking forward to trying one of their pilsners.

I'm also guilty of taking them for granted. My favorite is Commodore Perry, with Eliot Ness a close second.

Really enjoy Alchemy hour, Burning River, Fitz Porter, however, I had barrel aged blackout stout one time when I visited the brewpub. It was amazing

Tough call because GL is an all around awesome brewery. It's one of my top 15 or even top 10 favorites. I'd probably go:

    1. Alchemy Hour
    2. Edmund Fitzgerald
    3. Oktoberfest
    4. Lake Erie Monster
    5. Rye of the Tiger

Their Nosferatu, Christmas Ale, silver & Gold IPL and Dortmunder Gold are all fantastic too though. I haven't had Blackout Stout yet. They're really damn consistent.

In my opinion Edmund Fitzgerald is their best. It has complex flavors going on but it isn't overpowering and goes down easy.

My favorite is probably Dortmunder Gold though. It is crisp and refreshing and I could drink them all night.

Great Lakes is probably the most consistent craft brewer out there. I've never had a beer from them I didn't like. I used to drink them a lot when I first started drinking craft beer, but have kind of moved away from them. This thread makes me think I should pick up some fitz.

There aren't any that I don't like, but I'm going to say Eliot Ness. Such a damn solid beer.

Edmund Fitzgerald. Probably the second best porter ever, behind Hill Farmstead Everett.

Year round Edmund Fitzgerald best non Baltic porter on the market.

Seasonal BA Black Out, Alchemy Hour is a close second, biggest problem is Heady seems to have ruined all other DIPAs for me.:slight_frown:

NJ is finally seeing GL's seasonal offerings so from what I've had (Ness, Fitz, Dortmunder, Wright, Commodore, Burning River, Nosferatu, and Lake Erie) I gotta take Lake Erie monster.

All have really been some of the best craft examples of their respective style though. I can't wait to try the beer formerly known as Alchemy Hour soon though.

I have only had 2 of their beers, the Edmund Fitzgerald and the Oktoberfest. I loved the Porter, didn't really like the Oktoberfest, but that's a style that I'm not too enthusiastic about anyway. Looking forward to trying more of their stuff. I'm willing to bet I'll really like the Dortmunder Gold
