I personally think it's total crap and not just on philosophical grounds. I tried it and didn't like it. But that's just my taste, to each their own as long as one is aware who's profiteering off your thirst.

You haven't even met me... :stuck_out_tongue:

I never said there was absolutely zero people drinking beer there, did I ? I'm talking about general cultural trends here, of course there's always dissenters and thank Hell for them. We'd be like insects without them.

This far afield, I'd say it's my local distributor who is getting my money, maybe a little to the retailer -- and that doesn't necessarily make me happy either!

I've seen/heard enough! :grinning: (yes folks, it's all in jest -- move along before you get offended, move along...)

Well, second biggest beer fest in Germany ought to explain some trend I'd think. Even though I know you'd look on it as exploitively bad as the Oktoberfest, I had a lot of fun... and a lot of beer!

If you'd read the article you linked you'd have also read that they admit that many of their visitors are not locals.

"In diesem Jahr zog es neben den fast schon traditionell großen Gruppen aus Italien vermehrt Touristen aus den Niederlanden und aus Belgien zum geselligen Feiern in die Landeshauptstadt."

Must have changed an awful lot, because I saw very few tourists when I went -- especially when compared to Munich. And with 168 years of history, I'd have to think that they don't keep it going just for the tourism.

Well.... München is basically the Bavarian equivalent of going to a reservation of Native Americans and watch an reenactment of one of their traditional war dances. And you probably couldn't tell the difference between Dutch and the local dialect :stuck_out_tongue:

I think you'd be surprised. Now Schwabish, that's another question! :grinning:

While some may drink wine, most of the people here actually drink beer. I work with many native Swabians, and all of them prefer beer. I am sensing some east Germany versus west Germany hate in your posts.

I didn't realize pride in your country = hating everyone else. Are you German? I think some of my coworkers would be offended by some of your statements.

There is an entire Swabian section of the festival. Hundreds and hundreds of locals hanging out and drinking beer. Have you been to the festival. I didn't see another American in the southern German section.

As recent history has taught us there's a fine line here.

No. I'm Bavarian. Born and bred.

    Why would that be ?

[And on a side note, why can I not add fffing smilies anymore ???? WTF happened to this place since that infernal "upgrade" ?]
