Bought a BOX of Hops on Wednesday and I've enjoyed all the beers. The Double Zilla was a little
smoky but a nice change of pace. The Creeker is an exceptional IPA - also, the box reminded me
of Flower Power - quite exceptional in itself.

 

Thanks to Beeelander, I got to try Flower Power and Creeker. Both were fantastic and I want more. As a WC guy, I hear nothing but ramblings about Pliny, Citra, etc.. Great beers, but we can't overlook that great IPAs & IIPAs come from other places.

Give these a try if you have the opportunity.

 

The cheapest I can find Box of Hops near me is $25.99, which comes to $12.99 a six-pack. The cheapest I can find 6 packs of Flower Power is $12.49, or $24.98 for 12 beers. $1 more for the Box of Hops. For this comparison, I presume the difference is similar where you are. So, if you buy 6 packs of Flower power, how can you say $1 more is out of your price range?

 

i got the box last wkend as a present w/ a pumking from a buddy...it was a good day..last nite i was drinking 2 week old Jai Alai and going to what i knew was fresh FP and thought these beers were damn near equal..again a good day

 

I saw variations of over $5 here in Ithaca where the box of hops was made. I don't think that a box of very high abv beers is out of the realm at 24.99. That's what it sold for at the brewery or maybe it was 25.99. In any case those beers are from 7.5 to 11% . 30/12 is $2.50 a beer. Just sayin'

 

Paid $23, I saw the invoice and the store had paid $17 a 12 pack

So for every 4 12 packs the store buys they're out $68. They need to sell 3 of the 12's just to pay for them. The 4th covers everything else they have to pay out. It's not a bad price considering what the retailers are being charged.

Considering everything has to be an IPA variant these days, I'm going with Islay Pale Ale or Double Islay Pale Ale for the Double Zilla.

I usually pay about $12 for Flower Power, and this has Double Flower Power, Black Flower Power, and a smoky barleywine version of Cascazilla for basically the same price as 2 12 packs of Flower Power.

 

Just wanted to post a follow up on this. After contacting Ithaca I received a phone call from one of their beer reps in my area asking about the problem I had with my pruchase. To make a long story short he ended up driving 5 minutes from my house to hand me a sixer of the missing Dark Vine.

 

That is great customer service.

 

$24.99 and the beer guy did not think ot would sell buit they have almost sold out. I to passed. Over $20 for a 12 pk no thanks. but it is the same as 2 sixers of Flower Power so ??? Maybe Ill go get one.

A place near me sells FP 6 packs for $9.99....a perennial special.

 

Thought the Flower Power was very good, but was much less impressed with the rest.
For $30 a 12/pk I'd say it's a busted Box of Hops

PLEASE DO NOT TAKE OFFENSE TO THIS...as tastes & opinions Do vary. I am NOT picking on (you) @ all.

* Just talkin' diff. In taste & Palate here. PLUS, as basicly an IPA drinker (w/sum exceptions) anymore - & Hop Head. I wasn't too disappointed w/ this Box. Wanted to try it, wlda Paid $30, still, if I (had) too ....& been satisfied.
- I'll tell you what they Shlda put in there ..was their Awesome CascaZilla !! ..but 2 "zilla's" in 1 box mighta' been Too silly.
It's better than the Dbl ..go figure

Haven't seen it yet in Western Mass.

 

I had double zilla again tonight (first time since my original post) ... Just do not like it at all. 4 of the other 3 beers would make a nicer 12 pack

 

Was it the smoke or the huge abv?
