i have a local beer called toasted lager by blue point brewery that ive noticed tastes not only better, but like a completely different beer on tap vs bottle...ive mentioned it a few times before and i had it again the other day on tap and i just cant figure why it tastes so different. tap: burnt marshmallows and spice all day...bottle: above average BMC lager.....has anyone had this before with a beer

For some reason, Chimay yellow label tastes much better to me on draft than in the bottle. On-tap I get much more fruit and richness from the yeast. Out of the bottle it's more balanced and less vibrant. Also, my girlfriend swears that Sweetwater 420 is an entirely different beer in the bottle as opposed to tap. Sort of like what the OP experiences only backwards: Tap tastes like BMC lager, bottle tastes like a slightly hoppy pale ale as it should.

Lot of Arizona beers are like that because it's so common to find infected bottles, or other off tastes in the bottles.

Many of Lake Placid Brewery's beers taste far better on tap than in the bottle, because the draft beer is made on premises in Lake Placid and the bottles are contract brewed somewhere else. Ubu is a fantastic beer on tap, in the bottle it's entirely forgettable.

Fullers London Pride was incredibly different on tap (in NY) but the ESB was just like the bottled in my experiences.
There are so many variables - it isn't unusual.
I've had moments where the pint from the tap seemed so different from the sample a minute prior (volume makes such a difference).

If you have had them on cask in London, both are different. The recipes for cask are lower ABV than bottle.

Consecration on tap was a religious experience.. Out of the bottle was very good, but on tap was a whole new level.

Central Waters Brewers Reserve Bourbon Barrel Scotch. Had a bottle of this the other night and though it was pretty damn good. Had it on tap last night though and it wasn't the same, flavor wise a lot less boozy and almost had a buttery taste. I preferred my bottle experience.

A few come to mind. First was DFH Burton Baton. Bought a 4 pk and thought it was only slightly different than regular 90 minute. Then I had it on tap out of a snifter and I totally got the point. The other was Epic Big Bad Baptist. I had it on tap first and was blown away. Later I shared a bottle with my father-in-law, who is also really into stouts, and we were both like "Eh, not so special".

Sadly, I am not well off enough to go out and enjoy a brew at a bar. But I have sampled a great deal from a local store and IMO Samuel Smith Chocolate Stout and Pumking drafts are leaps and bounds better than bottled.

My wife had that beer on Thursday, it had enough Diacetyl that I picked it up with my high threshold. Is this beer usually a butter bomb, or does the multitap need to clean their lines?

There Are some Belgian beers that I had some time back in Belgium that I thought were better from the bottle.

The differences between a lot of beers on tap vs the bottle or can is quite amazing. All of Blue and Gray brewery beers are better on tap. The absolute biggest difference I have ever noticed was Franziskaner Hefe. I almost drain poured the first bottle I had, than tried it on tap a few weeks later and it blew me away.

You had Samuel Smith on draught in the USA? I didn't realize that was doable.

It's hardly worth drinking Bass from the can or bottle but find somewhere where they have it on gravity dispense and the difference is astonishing.

Ivan in the bottle was ridiculous. Ivan on tap (6 months later) was awful. Didn't even finish it.

And like @pathman said, BBB from Epic on tap was awesome!

Great Lakes Christmas Ale for me. Even being a local I never got the love drinking it from the bottle. Someone told me you have to try it on tap, totally different. They were right & that's the only way I've had it since. So much better.
