I'm just getting into all things beer and homebrewing and was curious... do you have a pod cast you love that is for beer geeks that isn't just tasting and reviewing?

Try Beer Geek Radio. They have discussions on beer related topics and do fewer reviews. They also have done a few tasting tournaments with different styles.

They're on Facebook with links to their podcasts.

I've considered starting one, but it's difficult to get live face-to-face interviews and no computer I have can handle Skype AND recording/broadcast software at the same time. Given the lack of interviews, there's really not much else but tasting and reviewing. Zane Lamprey's podcast has a lot of alco-makers on, but I've only heard wine and spirit makers on there; No beer people yet

There are plenty of "Let's drink a lot of BMC and shoot the shit" pods that can be hit or miss, but most that aren't high school kids on a laptop microphone are pretty funny. Little to no beer talk though, just beer drinking.

I love Craft Beer Couple and Craft Beer Anonymous for the reviews and shoot the breeze. I was hoping to find a more educational one, like a Beer for Dummies 101 type thing. Not that I know nothing -- I know enough -- but I love to dig deep into history of styles, where they come from, brewing techniques, etc. Something with a little more meat. I'll look up the one you mention, Siggy!

I love Craft Beer Radio. This one is mostly reviews, but you might check out the recordings they did at the Savor events. These focus mostly on pairing, but the brewers tend to talk a lot about other stuff. I really enjoy these in particular...

If you are interested in brewing Search for these.
    Basic Brewing Radio.
Brewing Network, which has several shows to choose from. Lots of guy humor, so be warned.

The Beerists is the only podcast I keep returning to. Those guys and gals are hilarious.

It sounds like you should give The Jamil Show (on the Brewing Network) a shot. Try one of the episodes that explores homebrewing to a style rather than one where they try to clone a commercial beer.

BeerSmith has a bunch of podcasts and offers a decent newsletter on home brewing. Lots of interviews with people in the field, talks about technique, styles, recipes, etc. Check out their website. I think there are quite a few resources you may find useful.

Totally agree. The Beerists produce a show with education and a lot of laughs. It's a must listen for a beer nerd. I used to have a few others but I ended up not listening to those anymore. Between The Beerists, Dan Patrick and the Sewing Mittens and Kittens podcasts, who has the time?

I found them on iTunes. http://thebeerists.com

Thanks for all the suggestions! I've loaded up with them. I think I've got so many beer podcasts now that my iPhone is drunk.

Anyone have any good podcast recommendations? I listen to Craft Beer Compass, but I'm looking for one that talks about news and the overall craft climate vs just tasting notes.

They are not podcasts per say but YouTube has a ton of beer related videos from breweries to tastings to movies and shows...actually I think there might be some podcasts also...key words...craft beer, breweries, beer movies...and so on.

Well I was going to say TheBeerists, but it's mostly about tasting different beers rather than getting into the culture like you say you're looking for. Their podcast is extremely entertaining, though, if you want to give them a shot. One episode is 1-2 hours of four Beerists tasting 5 or 6 beers, and overall they do a great job.

A brand new podcast I just started listening to that I think you will enjoy is Good Beer Hunting. The host is a journalist just getting into podcasts, so the sound quality isn't perfect, but it's fascinating stuff. It's brand new so there is only only 8 episodes so far, but it's great so far. He's interviewed Van Havig of Gigantic Brewing Co., Chris Quinn of The Beer Temple, Kevin Lemp of 4 Hands, Bret Porter of Goose Island, Nathan Micklos of Pacifico, and more. They talk about the culture, all sorts of interesting stuff around beer, and while they do drink beer while recording, they never talk about flavor notes.

Craft Beer Academy has a podcast that's more news & discussion than tasting, though there is a little of the latter.
