For the third straight year, Lakefront Brewery, Inc. will celebrate the infamous start of the holiday shopping season with a “Black Friday” event, featuring a limited edition beer. The special Black Friday brew, an Imperial India-Style Black Ale, will be available only at the brewery and only for one day – if that. (It sold out in just 90 minutes last year.)

Lakefront’s Black Friday event will start at 8 a.m. Friday, Nov. 29. In addition to the special beer, it will also feature brewery breakfast food (and “beermosas”) from Karma Bar & Grill; a live deejay from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; brewery tours starting at 11 a.m.; and a live band, the Brewhouse Polka Kings, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The potent (10 percent ABV) dark ale was first created for last year’s Black Friday event. It will be available in 22-oz. bottles only. Sales will be limited to three bottles per person, while supplies last. Because last year’s supply of Black Friday went so fast, the brewery has more than quadrupled the number of bottles it will make this year from 1,200 to 5,000. The brewery is also adding a “bottle swap” component for the 2013 event –encouraging participants to bring and trade bottles of rare or unusual beers.

“Black Friday is all about one-day-only, limited supply deals, so we wanted to offer our customers an exclusive beer worth getting up early for,” said Lakefront’s director of business development , Chris Johnson. “This is a very strong, distinctive dark ale, with ample pine and citrus aromas.”

The first 1,000 people to buy the beer will get a limited Black Friday pint glass. Full details about the event can be found on the brewery’s Black Friday website, blackfridaybeer.com. Patrons can also buy advanced brewery tour tickets online via the website if they want a guaranteed spot on a specific tour.

How will the bottle share part work as far as where beers can be consumed? Since most of the line was on the sidewalk, I would assume it is illegal to have an open container unless special steps were taken by Lakefront ahead of time.

The beer share will take place in the large hall where the actual purchase will take place, thinking they want you to wait till after you make your purchase to actually open up bottles,or at least your on their property

Hopefully there is room for more of the line in there. The best part of a bottle share at a release is that you have something to do to pass the time while in line.

The beer swap is to exchange/trade bottles between individuals at the event. No bottles should be opened and/or consumed outside Lakefront's premises.

If anyone from Madison wants to grab me a couple, I have a bottle of Sosus for trade.

Maybe the website should be changed from "Bottle sharing and swapping encouraged!" to "Bottle trading encouraged!" to avoid confusion. I think bottle sharing is universally understood as bringing and opening beers on premises, and with many brewery releases actually encouraging bottle shares, I wouldn't be surprised if I'm not the only one who interpreted the website that way.

I doubt anyone wants to give 2/3 of a $10 per 3 bottle allotment, or even $20 period, for a bottle of Sosus.

Thanks, I thought they were half that price like their other bombers.
    I'd do a 1 for 1 trade.

We just finished bottling Black Friday this afternoon!!

    5000 bottles in 90 minutes!

Only 36 hours before our doors open. You can't get much fresher for an IPA.

See everyone on Friday morning!! We're looking forward to a lot of fun, tours, food, and sampling!!

TMJ4 saying "dozens" then "100" people lined up by 6:30. Anyone care to confirm (ie admit) to be there already?

I hope the beer is good.

They better hope it sells out, otherwise the slogan "not available tomorrow" is gonna look pretty silly.

Was still a cool event--couldnt feel my toes by the time we were let in, but once we got in it was nice, save for the lame dad rock that was assailing my ears at high volume all morning from the "DJ":astonished:
