I'm sure we've all had a beer that made us think, "Holy SH!T!! There's no way there could be a better (insert beer style here) than ______!"

For me, I thought I had been ruined by BVDL and would never in a million years enjoy an imperial stout as much as I enjoyed that one. Well, I must say that BA Abraxas took that title from BVDL quite easily a few months back when I lucked out and got to try a small amount of it at a tasting... Hence, why I've been blowing up the forum with offers recently to try and land a bottle hehehe :grinning:

So let's hear about those life-changing beers.

I never though I'd encounter a more interesting, intense, and complex beer than 2008 Cuvee de Tomme. Then I had Kentucky Brunch.

Some of my most memorable "beer changing" moments occurred in Canada.

Six years ago, I visited the Dieu du Ciel brewpub in Montréal in hopes of trying Péché Mortel. At that time, I thought that La Fin du Monde and Aventinus were the sky. Afterwards, the sky climbed to a higher level.

Three years ago, there was Central City's Red Racer Double IPA, served on-tap at the brewpub itself. I had just finished a glass of the regular Red Racer to learn that they had an Imperial version of it. The bartender asked me if I wanted to try it. I quipped that I should like it, no sampler needed. I was wrong. I absolutely loved it! So much that I had a second glass, putting my motor skills in serious jeopardy. I thought Pliny the Younger was king, but I would be one of few today to trade Younger kegs for Red Racer Imperial IPA kegs.

The first time I had Heady Topper it blew me away as the best beer I've ever had, then I had Double Sunshine...Amazing!

I never thought I would have a better American Strong Ale than Double Bastard with a year on it. Still haven't.

There was a point where I thought the BBC BA Stout was the top. I've learned a lot this year.

Speedway Stout back in........07? It just blew my mind and I wasn't super knowledgeable on godstouts at that point. To this day, I'm not 100 percent sure I've had a better non-BA RIS. I want to do a side by side with Zhukov and Fidy to be sure.

Also, I thought this way when I had my first Westy 12. That was actually the first "whale" I ever had and it was number 1 on the BA 100 at that time.

I must admit my ignorance on godstouts myself, although I'm not a religious man... But perhaps I could be converted!

...although, if Speedway Stout is a godstout, perhaps I was already a Cathoholic and just didn't know it!

In its style, outside of MAYBE Zhukov, I'm not sure I've had a better traditional RIS. It's top tier in the style, I think. I'd take it over Hunaphu, easily.

Aventinus Weizen-Eisbock is the supreme "O Lord, You are so strong and, well, just so super" pinnacle for the style...in my humble universe.

Didn't think I'd have a better IPA than Heady. Then I had Abner. Didn't think I'd have a better IPA than Abner. Then I had Double Sunshine. I haven't yet had a better IPA than Double Sunshine. Still looking, really want to try Jai Alai, On the Wings of Armageddon, Abrasive, the various Three Floyds IPAs, and Julius. Not sure they'll de-throne Double Sunshine, but its worth a try right?
