2013 4 Elf beers with off flavors...

Also I think they ran out of wax because they used 4 times the usual amount on most bottles. Tried cracking a BA 4 Elf last night and almost broke a knife & a bottle opener.

 

Looking at a bottle of '12 BBPt5 next to '13 BBPt5 and '13 had WAY more wax than '12. When I opened a '13 BBPt5 bottle, it took more time than usual and had more wax under the ribs of the cap than I have ever seen.

 

I've opened BBPt5, 666, 3legs & Top Fuel. All were top-notch except for Top Fuel, which has some sort of funk going on. They had 3legs or 6legs on tap at FOBAB and it sucked. The bottle of 3legs I opened was waaaay better.

 

I had the BBA Long Polymer John Donut Ale last night and it had nothing wrong with it.

 

exactly this...the draft version was sour appled up...no way there wasn't something wrong with it.....but people are saying it's actually good out of the bottle???

 

No one else has opened their Where the Wild Things?

I'll be opening another one around Christmas. I hope I get a good bottle, but my chances are bad since I was with BeerRx when we had the butter bomb.

 

No it wasn't. It's the worst year ever of this beer. It has virtually no barrel whatsoever. It's good, but unlike previous batches it isn't great. I got 4 bottles and I think that's too much to own of the 2013.

 

Blah blah blah, dark horse loves putting out infected and sub par beers. Stop going and giving them your money for horrible quality control and ignoring when something should be dumped.

drinking my donut beer right now and the smell is nothing but green apples. is this what they were going for? the taste is sweet with a little apple, cant detect any barrel. its not bad but not sure this is what it is supposed to have goin on. had a 3 legs and a 666 the other night that tasted great.

 

Had 2 Wild things since 4 elf, both fantastic!!!

 

I also had one of these last night, my experience was the same.It almost smelled more like cider than beer, It was ok, but not really enjoyable. A friend opened the bottle and split it with me, and we still poured about 1/3 of it down the drain.

 

Awesome. There's still hope!

 

Honestly, this sounds alot like King of the Forest a couple years ago...Wasn't terrible, but obviously was not right (or enjoyable for that matter).

 

I opened my bottle last weekend with three other people. We each took a sip and drain poured the rest very strong taste of apple and definitely not in a good way. Hopefully I just got a bad bottle...

 

I opened my bottle of Doughnut last night with friends from my homebrew club, it tasted like cider and we drained poured the last half of it. The Brandy Barrel 4 Elf was amazing.

 

Seems like the donut beer was a bust then, way to go dark horse, 3 years in a row!
