2013 4 Elf beers with off flavors...

Just drank another doughnut beer, tasted solid. No green apples at all. Also just drank more BBPlead and Sarsp666... so good tasting. The Sarsp666 is way better than on tap.

 

EXCELLENT because 666 was my 1st tap beer at 4 elf & loved it

 

Yup, sounds like many of the bottles being opened are the same as the one you opened

 

Donut was complete apple cider green apple mess - no way it wasn't like that when bottled, no way. Unmistakeable.

 

One of my pleasant surprises of 4 Elf was the 666 Sarsaparilla. I thought it was awesome. So much so, that my group and I went back to buy more bottles once they were finished with the allotments.

Cracked 2 with some buddies yesterday and was just as good as I remember (needed to let it warm up a tad from the fridge). If anyone is on the fence about cracking one open/ getting one, don’t be. In my opinion, it’s really good.

Unfortunately I just cracked a Donut beer & I'm getting the green apple smell/taste as well. That sucks since I just stopped on Friday & picked up 2 more

 

Yikes... Bottle of BBA Donut certainly was an acetaldehyde bomb... Green apple cider, no doubt. Shame, it did not taste like that on tap at all (though everyone says it did). I thought the bourbon character was rather light when I had it at 4Elf so perhaps I was mistakenly handed the non-BA version.

 

If anyone tried the BBPt5 and don't like it, feel free to bm me so I can send you my address to ship. Just tried it for the first time and got nothing but tons of dark chocolate. I actually like it better than BCBS since it's less sweet.

 

Opened a bottle last night. My father-in-law liked it, I wasn't a fan. Most certainly taste like green apple.

 

Wild things= butter bomb
666= possibly worse than bully guppy
Beer is Dark = not infected but very bitter and not very good
BBPT5= worst year I have had. Still solid but nothing compared to the last few years

Overall very disappointing and I didn't even try the donought one. All I can say is I am glad that I didnt go to event, trade for any bottles or buy any bottles

 

A good bottle of Wild Things is phenomenal. It sucks that some are butter bombs.

666 was amazing. The 7 or so people who tried it with me thought it was fucking awesome. (Out of the bottle)

I agree that Beer is Dark sucks.

This year's BBAPt5 is outrageous. Opinions keep the world interesting, but I disagree with you so strongly on this one.

I'm saying this in the nicest way possible, but from what you said, it sounds like you're trying to convince yourself you made a good decision skipping 4elf or not trading for these. To be honest, I think you're delusional. Cheers!

 

Respect your opinion but I felt the same way after trying last years ba beers from 4 elf which is why I didn't want to attend this year. IMO last years bbpt5 blows this one away!

Maybe there is bottle variation with 666 but no one could even stomach more than a sip when we opened one...just an infected nail polish mess. I'd like all their beers to be good, they sound great but my experience has been less than sub par. Glad yours has been great though, more dark horse for you!

Unfortunately, I didn't have the same experience. Thought it was thin with very little flavor. The nose was spicy with a nice barrel smell, but taste didn't match.

Enjoyed 1st bottle of '13 BBPT5, but haven't tried previous years in the bottle. Just have had '12 BBPT5 on tap.

 

Sounds like steebo is mostly all alone on this doughnut situation

 

I just did a 11,12,13 mini vert and I disagree with you on the BBPT5....Guess I would just disagree about everything you posted...But, do respect your opinion...Cheers..

 

Yep, totally weird. Thus far all bottles have tasted great that I've opened.

 

I've liked all the ones I've had including Sasparilla, Dark, BB 4 Elf and BBPt5th. I thought BBPt5th had less barrel characteristic than last years but I could be wrong, just my initial impression.
