I admittedly haven't had any ZD in quite a long time, and didn't know they stopped putting Citra hops on the label/description. Did they actually stop using Citra hops? If so, wouldn't that make it a different beer?

Duh, it's a zombie. It died and came back to life.

I'm sure it's worrshipped because it's on the top of that top 250 beer list so that makes people like me who never had t really want to try it atleast. So far I like everything I have had from fff but have not been blown away by anything either. It's al personal preference really

Shit, I'm not buying Zombie dust anywhere but the brewery anymore.

Name another beer as well constructed and delicious as ZD that retails at $3.06/bomber (translated $10 six-pack price) and I will stock up on said beer without hesitation.

I once thought this beer was solid but not exceptional, but I was wrong. The more I had it (including buying two cases straight from the source) the better it gets.

Keep in mind that the first time I tried Permanent Funeral I believe I gave it a 3 or 3.5 rating here and didn't understand the fuss, but I've had it about four times since then and love it.

Some beers are an acquired taste, but some literally get better with each and every glass, and I think Zombie Dust is one of those beers.

Also as alluded to earlier, when you can pay the same price for a case of ZD as one 750mL BA beer from Three Floyds, it's hard to argue against the Zombie Dust. Quality AND quantity.

It all comes down to 'do you love single hop citra beers'?

I dont really. they taste too much like fruit loops and or cat pee. TG's psuedoSue and ZD both are good, but after having them a couple times I dont go out of my way to find them. I gave sue 2 growlers and ZD a full 6 pack before I rated them, and the 2nd, 3rd...6th try didnt change my mind. I rated both (pretty much) 4s unknowingly.

The masses seem to LOVE single hop citra. Personally I think Citra needs another hop or 2 to take it to the next level.

^So I take it you're not a fan of Citra Ninja?

I havent had Ninja, so I dont know. But if it follows my trend of other citra beers, i preemptively give it a 4

One of the things that makes a consensus "Best of" beer list so difficult. I love citra hops and generally don't like my IPAs and DIPAs "balanced".

A couple of years ago I made a trip to FFF knowing that they were supposed to be a great brewery but noyt knowing about the hype (obv I wasn't posting on here at the time). I walked & grabbed a bunch of stuff for my brother & I including a sixer of ZD & when I had I thought hmm, that's pretty good. That being said I didn't think it really stood out as the king of pale ales but maybe my palate wasn't developed enough & I need to try it again

I'm also not a fan of Citra hops, not only the single hopped version, but also combined with other hops (there seem to be quite a few Citra/Simcoe mixes going around). I've had ZD fresh at FFF several times hoping to see what all the hype is about, and I just don't like it. I've gotten to the point that I don't even try new beers with Citra in them. To me the pineapple/grapefruity taste is unappealing in a beer. I understand that is just like, my opinion, man, and many, many people disagree with me. And I'm okay with that.

Maybe crazy but I've always thought the name itself has had a role in the surge of hype. Yes of course the beer has to still be good but as others have mentioned there are plenty of other pale ales out there which are solid and just as good quality wise. That ZD is good just makes sure that people who first try it will likely have it again and mention the name to others in passing, etc.

And if someone who has never had it hears someone talking about 'zombie dust', face it that's a catchy as hell name. And that's partly because zombies have had a boom of course in popular culture, particularly around 2011 when the ZD name change occurred so it has benefited from the zombie zeitgeist some imo. And a product with a catchy name or that is particularly memorable with consumers is more likely to stand out from one that is not. This is not anything new. I've wondered if the beer had been named something ho-hum like Three Floyd's Pale Ale would it have received the same hype that the beer does today?

    "Where you going?"
"Gong to Three Floyds to get some Pale Ale"

Just doesn't have the same ring.

Of course that the beer sells out at the brewery the same day it is released helps contribute to the hype as well. But I think the zombie dust name has played a small part in it. Kudos to whomever came up with the name imo.

Well the first time I tried it was entirely because it was named Zombie Dust.

Maybe you are just a Coors guy. I see you rate be Coors beer higher than ZD and one the same. I think you have suspect taste buds.
