I am heading to the ski resorts in Lake Tahoe in a few weeks and was wondering if I would be able to get any Russian River goodness on the California side. (staying at a Casino on Nevada side). According to RR website, they distribute to a number of bars and liquor stores in South Tahoe. I googled a few of them but couldn't find too much out but one of them had a facebook page with some pictures of Pliny back from October (https://www.facebook.com/TahoeBottleShop?filter=3) but that was the last post. So, wondering if anyone has the low down on Russian River availability (or any other Cali goodies) that can be purchased in South Tahoe. Also, wondering which of the local breweries is the best if anyone has input on that. Cheers John
Kings Beverage has a pretty darn good selection, i'd say go there... I don't remember seeing any RR there tho.. Stateline Brewing is Ok, I actually thought their food was better than their beer, which is just ok beer...
Freshies!!! Place is rad. $8 a pint, and $30 a pitcher. Get the fish and/or shrimp tacos. I have not encountered any other RR stuff around there. Also, go to DART liquors. They have some cool out of market stuff there, and occasionally a few beers that linger the shelves for longer than normal. I picked up Abyss about 6 months after it was released a year or two ago.
This is going to have way too many generalities to probably make it helpful, but I did run into Pliny and Blind Pig last summer in South Lake Tahoe. It was at a catering/gourmet cheese store/bakery in South Lake Tahoe. It was just off the main drag in a Safeway/SavOn (?) shopping center. Not the one right down by Stateline, but closer to the Y if you are coming in from the 50 from San Francisco. My wife found the place to get a cake. As we were waiting I noticed that they had Enjoy By and Damnation. I asked if they had any Pliny and they pointed me to a cooler opposite the one I was looking at. I'd ask my wife, but she is fighting the flu and is finally sleeping and not puking.
Looked for the receipt, but it looks like it got lost in the move. Have you looked on RR website to see if they have any retailers listed?
Screw looking for RR, go to Tahoe City on the North Shore and look for Tahoe Mountain. The head brewer there is from Crooked Stave (if that info is still correct). Pumping out some great beers. If not, go to Himmel Haus (Ski Run Rd, I think) and enjoy some good German food & beers.
agreed - this is definitely worth the effort, Tahoe is going to a new level with this new brewer cheers jd
