We had some Sunday and there was no barrel at all and the Vanilla was kind of bubble gummy and artificial tasting.

I know you'll all be looking for it anyways. I promise I wasn't trying to throw you off the scent. lol

I 2nd about the regular Noir being better, got 6 bottles of Vanilla and just cracked one. Definitely a little disappointed, plus there is a nice little metallic taste from the bottle cap rusting.

Damn, that doesn't sound good. When I was putting my bottles up today I noticed my fingers were a little damp afterwards. I guess I wasn't just sweating from the excitement.

I've had 6 bottles of the Vanilla and there was a lot of variance from bottle to bottle. 3 were fantastic, 1 was decent, and 2 definitely tasted off. The taste actually wasn't correlated with the bottle cap rust, which I think 3/5 of the bottles had.

I had a pink Bomb! that leaked so bad you could see where beer ran all the way down the side of the bottle and stained the label. What's the deal with Prairie? Their beer is too good to have to worry about improper bottling.

I've seen rusted caps on all my pink bombs, the wax on them was also stained.

Waxed bottles sometimes rust on the outer part that isn't in contact with the beer. I've never seen a rusted cap cause problems with the beer itself. If you're worried about that then stay away from prairie and i'll take your share...

For me it hasn't just been an issue with rusted caps. As I said, the bottles I've opened have had beer stains on the inside of the wax, and in some occasions the wax has bubbles with holes where the some co2 clearly escaped. It seems to me that there might have been an issue with the crowns themselves.

The rust is inside of the cap on this one, my pink Bomb had leaked a little and I didn't have any issues. I know they are a young company and will have growing pains. I like almost everything they put out and will continue to support them. All I'm saying is what I anticipated and what I got from Vanilla were two very different things.

It was inside the rubber part of the cap? Anything outside that rubber part doesn't touch beer...

I can say one of the Vanilla bottles I got today was visibly leaking still, hole in the wax, wipe away the beer and it starts filling the hole back up, after doing this five times I asked them to trade it out and they put that beer aside, hopefully not to sell to someone else.

I am guessing to sell to someone else - it is easier to sell it off and pretend you didnt know than it is to send it back to the distributor and not make money off of it. Just my guess.

Drinking one right now...Has a HUGE vanilla bean note on the nose and on the finish, not cloying at all, very well integrated with the rest of the profile, which is quite creamy in general...

Having said that, this is my first one, and I am interested to see how more samples are, as I have found a huge variance in how the Bombs taste, even within the same wax color...Consistency might be Prairie's main issue at the moment.

I have started to look at the wax on all of the beers I buy from them now, and give them back (for exchange) if I see any leakage or bubbles at all. Even with all of that, 90% of the bottles I open between Bomb, noir and now Vanilla Noir have had rust/leakage under the cap.

Yeah I've had just one out of many with rust.

This is an example of what I see just about every time:

Is that the seal from under the cap that has come off? Do you have a shot from another angle? I'm almost scared to open one now.

No that is a piece of wax from under the crown of the cap, the actual cap was intact (albeit stained).

FWIW, in this specific beer (and most that I have enjoyed) the leakage was evident, but did not seem to affect the flavor of the beer itself. But some of the beers have been "off", and I do wonder if excessive leakage might be the cause, or at least a mitigating factor...

To throw in my two cents: every bottle of Bomb! I've had (all pink wax) has had a little bit of rust (or something rust-like) under the cap. None of them have had off-flavors, though. Had Noir twice; don't recall checking those caps for whatever reason. I have three orange wax on me, three more on the way, and three Vanilla Noir on the way. I'll keep you updated on the juicy details.

I had a pink Bomb that was pretty rusted around the cap and tasted pretty off. It was my first Bomb so I was wondering what all the fuss was about. Had another pink one and it was much better and the few after that were fine as well. Never had a problem with any Noirs. The vanilla I had tonight was fine as well. Vanilla was very prominent and kind of overwhelmed the barrel but I love vanilla so this wasn't much of a problem.
