I read something on beer news that they have begun shipping parabola at least in their area. So it should becoming this way. I guess where I am confused is where is the Wookey Jack that should be here? I think that was supposed to come before parabola. Hopefully we will see soon.

Ehh. Am I the only one that could care otherwise about Wookey Jack? If it's good, it's good, and that's all there is to it. But a black rye IPA? That just sounds confusing to me—too many competing factions that I can't picture melding.

I wish they had barrel aged it with Brett so all the beer trends would've created a beer black hole where all pretention was sucked. That said, I am pretty excited about Wookey Jack.

I was a lot-tle disappointed that I couldn't sample individual firkins and instead had to buy a bracelet to try everything. Honestly, I don't like feeling obligated to drink a brew at the zoo ticket's worth of beer in a saturday evening and then also be intelligible the next morning for mother's day... Skipped it.
Drank my sour in the rye and bramble instead!

Has anyone heard any news on Founders in Syr? I talked to an Onondaga Beverage rep on Sunday. (not the guy I usually see) He said he hadn't heard anything and that they (OBC) were still waiting. Not sure what that means:confused:

We're not in Connecticut...yet. But our hopes are to be there by early June! Needless to say, it's been a busy few months for this guy.

Did the real ale fest with a handfull of friends at j ryans all day sat from 1pm till 9pm. With the excellent weather and ZERO crowd, we had a spectacular time. My highlights were sixpoint spice of life, brooklyn summer, middle ages oaked dragon slayer, 3 heads loopy, the four german lager casks, and hoptimum (one of 3 casks in the entire country apparently!). The guys pouring were super friendly and knowledgable as well...always a major plus at a beer fest.

I must say, however, that I was a bit disappointed in the 'cuse/CNY beer community for not supporting such a great event. I doubt there were more than 20 TOTAL tickets sold all day saturday. Friday appeared to be sparsely attended as well. $35 (for sat) for several hours of amazing beer was an insane value. I know we spent more or very close to this last year for the pay per sample ticket system. In general I'd guess most people would spend close to $30-$35 for the average night of drinking such high quality beers at a beer bar. I personally loved having full reign to try whatever I wanted however many times I wanted for the duration of the day. I am not sure if the great weather and mother's day weekend contributed to the poor attendance but it will be a big shame if jryans doesn't put this on next year due to the poor attendance....

Hey man, I'da been there if I felt I had the time or resources to make the most of $35. Fact of the matter is, I don't often go out to bars, period, and when I do I typically spend less than $10. I spent most of the weekend writing a paper on methodology in my field and some grading (which I'm now trying to finish in a 24 hour period). Unfortunately, all of that just made it entirely unreasonable for me to buy in to the fest.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the Spice of Life firkin...that may be even more rare than the Hoptimum firkins  Just sayin...

I'm happy to say that our day has finally arrived, Founders is officially in Syracuse.

@TheHopGuru just posted this picture at Galeville

It's tough to see, but it's 4 packs of Curmugeon and Cerise, and 6 packs of what looks like their Red Rye, Centennial IPA and Dirty Bastard

Mother's Day weekend may have been a poor choice - at least that's what killed it for me.

I don't want to get too negative, but J Ryans is a pretty shitty looking bar and as superficial as it sounds, that makes a huge difference. It's a place that has a working class sports-bar feel with an upper class taplist. As a result, I shy away from going there since my few experiences there weren't great. It's reputation for having dirty lines that ruin the beers doesn't help either.

Also - and I might be alone on this - I just don't like cask conditioned beers. I didn't like them when Clark's had this event, and I don't like them now. If these beers were being sold as normal kegs, I probably would have forked over the dough.

Hey, totally subjective. I generally don't go for cask beers, and I generally don't go for nitro, either. My preference, all other factors set aside, is for unpasteurized, bottle-conditioned beers, and standard CO2 kegs close behind. But there are some styles of beer (or more accurately specific beers within some styles) that to me scream for cask-conditioning. But again—totally subjective. Also, I'm poor.
