Surly coming to Iowa

To me it makes sense for them to come in, build some hype before they come to the market rather than host this event just to be kind. I couldn't see them distributing the entire state any time soon, but DSM is certainly a do-able smaller sized market that definitely has the demand for quality craft beer.

 

I don't see why they would come to Iowa to pour some beers if they weren't trying to gauge interest or to build hype. I can understand going to festivals to do so, but hitting up a well known bar is meant to say "hey, we're coming to your state *************s."

 

I am off work today and tomorrow but I was informed that Surly is coming via Johnson Bros... but I guess it could just be for the event at Bait Shop at this point.

Won't be missing this. Leaving work early that day to make sure I have somewhere to sit considering el Bait's size & assuming this will be a popular event.

Can't wait for Surly to come! Abrasive and Darkness are my favs of course. Cacao Bender is good and probably would have been better had I not had it right away in the morning after the Darkness Eve bottle share.

 

There is a Surly Beer Dinner scheduled in Milwaukee for May. Drawing a ton of interest, that could be a small genesis

Some have called Surly bitching. They don't think it is fair that only one bar is getting the beers. It's like they think they deserve to have the event too. Sorry folks Surly doesn't owe you anything

My aunt recently moved to Des Moines from Colorado and lives about ten minutes from El Bait, I think she is pretty stoked about this event. I kinda want to go.

Edit: Whole reason for my post and forgot to write it! Does this mean I could get a growler fill of any of those beers from El bait?? A growler of Darkness and/or Pentagram would make me very excited.

 

Nope. Most bars don't deserve half of the beers they get because they aren't going to serve them properly or be informed about the product. I could probably guess which bars are bitching, if they're on the eastern side of the state.

 

As far as Iowa goes El Bait shop was pouring craft beer before most Iowa bar owners knew what craft beer was. That coupled with their reputation as being one of the top craft beer bars in America pretty much seals the deal in my book. Calling Surly and complaing is only going to hurt not help.

 

I hope the complaint department is Todd with metal just blaring in the background.

Although that sounds enjoyable to me.

 

Yep and I'll take my business somewhere else when they do decide to expand distribution.
