InBev is up to it's dirty tricks again. This time, the major InBev distributors in our state are attempting to pass a new 64 ounce growler law that requires that all beers a brewery makes must be forced through the 3 tier system AND THEN SOLD BACK to the brewery at 30% markup. That's right, a brewery must sell, then re-purchase it's own beer at a higher cost if they want to sell it in their tap rooms.

It's stupid. It's insane and it's going to kill a lot of small breweries in our state. Pilot system and small batch beers? Kiss those goodbye. There's no profit in making them if 30% of your profits disappear overnight. Higher prices in the tap room? You betcha. Passing the costs right along to the consumer to make a handful of distributors in our state that much more wealthy. Money that could be used as reinvestment in brewery expansion, more staff or increased production now GONE.

InBev is so afraid of the 64 ounce growler because it's the most competitive container size to compete with the six pack. Even other honest distributors don't want this bill because they DON'T want to have to buy each and every beer a brewery makes. That would overwhelm them and force a lot more beer to just sit in an overflowing warehouse somewhere.

I urge you to call or write your FL state senators and tell them you are their constituent, you are watching how they'll vote and to VOTE NO on SB 1714 on Monday. Yes, tomorrow, the 28th Monday.

Where does it state that it has to be a mandatory 30% markup?

SO...she basically realized that it was a pile of drivel that wasn't going to do her any favors with the craft industry in Florida, or even with small business owners.

That version of the bill is completely different, considering how close it is to the potential Senate vote.

It still has shitty legislation in it. Limit's brewery to brewery transfer to 1000 barrels for the entire year.
Any bottle sales over 20% must go through distributor. Brewpub's can't growler. (Later CCB peanut allergy)
Just a quick glance, going to look into the bill more but I'm still against it.

This ^. The legislation still puts unnecessary caps in place. While not as bad as the original language, this language still is not acceptable. Why are the politicians trying to constrain the job growth engine that is craft beer in this state?!?!

Is anyone else listening / watching this live stream? They're just sitting around wasting hours giving the Senate President's nuts a good fondling. It's painful to listen to.

Yeah, the glad-handing/attaboy crap has gone on for too long already. I love how bills are down to the last few days before break, and time is wasted on this type of mess.

The taxpayers should give them all foldable metal chairs....then they would get shit done rather than being in those plushy, blue ones.

Yeah I'm interested in this one as well though
It's not much, but a stepping stone at least to full recreational use.
Anyways, Colorado looks better and better, has Crooked Stave, Avery, Great Divide, and Cannabis!

Linking the Florida bill to Goose Island is a stretch worthy of a top-flight goalkeeper. Nice try though.

Yeah, there's no proof of anything like this. It's more to do with the distributors than the breweries. We do know these things however:
    • The Lewis Bear Company is the oldest privately held corporation in Florida and Anheuser-Busch's oldest continuous distributor.
    • Lewis Bear is good friends with Senate President Don Gaetz, and has contributed a lot of money to his campaign.
    • Don Gaetz authored SB7120, now known as SB1714.
    • Don Gaetz was quoted saying he would support his friend Lewis Bear in regards to the growler bill.
    • Florida Beer Wholesalers supports this bill which include Gold Coast, Lewis Bear, Double Eagle, and even Brown.
This bill is being supported by the distributors, who most likely carry ABInBev products as the majority of their business. It's still speculation, but it's not hard to see why this bill would benefit ABInBev, and that they probably have a good amount of influence over these distributors.

It won't benefit any of the InBev distributors and/or their accounts even if it does pass. If I were a restaurant/bar owner that sides with the craft beer community because I am a small business owner as well as they are, I wouldn't carry any of their products. I know I would be a minute portion of people feeling this way but I can still disagree with my wallet.

    Oh lordy....here we go
