Bruery 2014 RS/HS Allocations

    Yeah it's essentially just a placeholder. They're $34 for RS and slightly lower for HS. If they ever do have a public sale like they do with Black Tuesday, the $40 will actually mean something.

    The $40 is a marketing ploy called price anchoring. They try to make you feel like you are getting a discount when the real retail price has been $34 the entire time. It just like what car dealerships and other businesses do when they "Mark Down" prices.

    Sort of. You can get the RS/HS discount on shelf/general release beers, so the discount is more than a marketing ploy.

    For RS/HS only beers, I think it's a philosophical question whether or not you're actually getting a discount. Maybe we're paying tax on the full amount? (I'm too lazy to check.)

    True, you do get a discount on shelf beers, but most RS/HS aren't a member to buy the shelf beers. We are members to purchase the non-shelf beers that are only sold to RS/HS. So the prices we pay are retail because the public doesn't have the opportunity to purchase at the MSRP. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy that we get a marginal discount on the shelf beers and I will occasionally purchase some but I feel like the Bruery just gives the "discount" to make the members feel like they are getting an extra perk. To be honest its a good business move for them.

    I think it's probably easier, from an administrative perspective, to just give HS/RS members a discount on everything, rather than telling people they only get discounts on non-exclusive beers. Consumers don't always keep track of which beers are exclusive, some exclusive beers end up getting sent out for distribution/general sale, etc. etc. People would complain over the confusion if they did things the other way.

    Well to be fair, they put Grey Monday out to the public during their 12 days of christmas sale for $44.99 so a precedence has been set. Aside from that, everything they put out during these types of sales are sold to the public at or above MSRP while still honoring the discount to RS/HS society members.

    I agree somewhat, but 'shelf' beers aren't always as such. Certain States or areas don't always get all beers released from the brewery, so that can't be a blanket assessment. For example, in 2012 Smoking Wood came to GA with a big footprint, I bought tons of it. This year's batch has not come to GA as of yet, and there's no word it will. So offering it at a discount still encourages me to buy some in the event it never makes it to our market. Local CA members obviously don't need to worry about this, but other members like me have that added advantage.

    Totally agree.

    True. If they didn't raise the price for a public sale all the RS and HS members would throw a fit on here. They save face and still make a nice profit, sounds like a win win to me. Plus the inflated price of a public sale adds to the price anchoring theory.

    I think I bought a bottle of batch one GM for $45 at the cellar sale a few years ago.

    The inflated rate is for archive sales. With the wordering for the memberships this year, HS gets first crack at extras, then RS, and then if there is any left over they will be offered to PS (no discount). I guess if PS doesnt buy everything it might end up in the tasting room.

    At this point, it would be awfully difficult to go through a case of FdR by the end of the month (the drink by deadline).

    It's available in Whole Foods out here, too. Message me if you need someone to grab a few for you (though admittedly, they're a couple dollars more expensive there vs. through the Bruery).

    Also, given how bottles are tasting as of last night, it would be pretty surprising if it wasn't still awesome by the drink by deadline.

    The Bruery has a pretty standardized pricing scheme independent of distribution.

    Anyone here try Couverteur yet? Opinions? I dig dubbels but wondering how the cacao and vanilla affect it.

    Probably, particularly so if The Bruery and Bruery Terreux are separate corporate entities.

    There are several reasons a company might decide to do that. I have no reason to believe they have done so or plan to do that. My point was in response to SHODriver's comment about being a paranoid drunk: if The Bruery and Bruery Terreux were operating as separate corporate entities, The Bruery could not easily pass off a botched beer to Bruery Terreux and market it as a sour.
