Hey, I'll be heading to Orlando on June 15th for a week and staying at the Rosen Shingle Creek conference center. I have already read the threads on where to go and things to see, but I am looking for some advice on what great beers may be available while I am in town. My plan is to take some back home with me to Wisconsin, but don't know the beer market in Florida that well. IPA's, Stouts and Sours are my favorite, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Cheers!

Check out this link to compare what is distributed in Florida vs. Wisconsin. Not sure how recent this is, but comparing Wisconsin distro to Florida it looks like you don't get Stone, Ballast Point, Uinta, Terrapin, or Cigar City and you should be able to find some good IPAs (Cigar City Jai Alai, Stone Enjoy By 7.4.14, Sculpin, etc), stouts (Stone IRS, maybe a Terrapin one, Ballast Point Victory at Sea Porter) and possibly some sours (Uinta Birthday Suit). Good luck and enjoy your trip to FL

There's a place in Lake Nona (Orlando near the airport) called Nona Tap Room. It has a draft list of over 50 rotating taps as well as over 50 bottles. Plus, it won the award for "Best Bar Menu" in the Orlando Sentinel, so it's got amazing food as well. Also, a small local brewery to check out would be The Hourglass Brewery in Longwood. Hope that helps!

Cask & Larder, great little BrewPub in Winter Park. Check their latenight menu, after 10 they have $3 house brewed beers and solid food to go with it.

Redlight Redlight is a must visit, Tap & Grind and Frank & Steins downtown and any of the number of World of Beers scattered around town.

Gnarly Barley is worth checking out as well. Solid tap list and some real tasty food. Check out their website for the current list.

Try and hit Orlando Brewing up in the northern area of Orlando. Great beers there and all organic.

Orlando Brewing is most certainly not "northern area" of Orlando (it's just south of downtown). And most locals would argue the "great" beers part.

Like all of us we have our own likes and dislikes. I wouldn't say all their beers are great, but the one's I have enjoyed there were pretty good. I have had a couple there that weren't my flavor, so your right that not all the beer is great.

For sure. I live about a ten minute cab ride from the brewery, and just can't be bothered to ever go there anymore. I wish I liked them. I wish they were amazing.

    Agreed. Same feeling here.

Looks like the Brewpub on Virginia (which was to be OBP but now Ten 10 Brewing) is coming along quite nicely, hoping to have better luck there!

The restaurant (bbq smokehouse) side of the Southern Moon location on Curry Ford is open now. From what I can see on Yelp and Facebook, they're already making their own sodas (root beer, ginger beer, cream soda). Looking forward to the brewery side to get up and going.

Sums up my feelings as well. I really wish my hometown had some decent LOCAL brewed options. I'm really tired of having to drive to Tampa/St Pete for great locally brewed beer, which is in abundance there. I honestly feel that the only decent place in Orlando to get great locally brewed beer is Cask & Larder, which is on such a small scale it hardly makes a ripple. If you're that next great brewer reading this and looking for an untapped market with loads of opportunity, please consider Otown.

I've alway thought it odd that as big as the beer culture has grown in the Orlando area, there are still no decent breweries to speak of, no offense to Orlando Brewing. Cask and Larder, maybe, but they are primarily a restaurant that makes beer and not a brewpub. Come on Orlando people! Somebody needs to step up to the plate! A halfway decent production brewery with a tasting room in Orlando would kill it!
