Anyone know what is going on with Goose Island and pushing out some "older products"?

I saw on here yesterday that BCBBW is hitting Texas in huge quantities recently, while everone else got it in November/ Dec. Then I walked into my local bottle shop here in Indianapolis and they had 2011 Lolita, 2011 Pere Jacques, 2012 Big John, and 2012 Night Stalker on the shelves. The manager that I always talk to wasn't in, so I'm not sure if it was the local distributor clearing the corners or if it was Goose Island.

I don't know if they were pushing "older" BCBBW on TX because we never got it when it came out in Nov/Dec. We are just getting it late, like most other beers that are released elsewhere and take a while to hit the stores due to TABC. Could very well have been sitting in distributors warehouses till now.

^That would be my assumption as well, some states have to hold it for approval for like 30 days, stupid. But awesome for Texans!

I picked up a couple of those bottles of Bramble when it hit Chicago. The guy at one of the stores I hit up told me that Goose had recently switched distributors and that the new guys were clearing out some old stock from warehouses. A few 2012 BCBS Coffee bombers were turning up around Chicago also.

Wonder if that is the same thing happening in Indy. I'll hit up a few locations that I know normally have GI to see if anything is turning up.

My guess would be one of two things: 1. they were holding on to some of those fine cellarables, knowing they would last (and 'improve'), or 2. Someone could have requested them. At the distro where I'm employed, I'm aware of some good G.I. products that have been in the back for a couple years. I once asked a salesman if he could sell Pere Jacques into my favorite liquor store. Another customer in town 'heard that Matilda is good' and requested that, planning to buy that whole case. He changed his mind when he saw the price. Now that store has 2012 Matilda and 2012 Pere Jacques in stock. In the country. In the middle of nowhere, west-central Minnesota. It happens.

Distributors dropped some regs BCBS and BCBBW about 2 months ago...I've heard they have a pallet or two of BCBCS

Yeah, distributor is just clearing out. No big mystery here. My brother picked me up a '12 Nightstalker in Chicago two weeks ago.

Can't speak for the rest of the country, but I can tell you all that the Northern VA wholesaler (VA Eagle) was sitting on back stock of BCBS from the last couple of years, as they were working on a vertical program that they decided to discontinue.

Thanks for all in information BAers. Based on all the stories, it sound like distributors are moving stock. It still makes me wonder if GI said something that is making them react in this way. My theory is that since GI has the new barrel house in Chicago that they are telling distributors that they will get tons of BCBS products in the fall and thus distributors are pushing out older stuff.

Very cool! Did you find out if it came from Norm's stash or a distributor?

Another possibility is that the distributer(s) were holding the stock for bars and restaurants and released the stock to retail when the bars/restaurants weren't moving the stock quick enough. This happens with wine frequently.

Pretty sure all the GI stuff landing in various cities is planned to coincide with this:

Some Vanilla, Cherry Rye and this past year's releases all showed up on shelves the same week of the Boston events.
