Who Reads Reviews?

Ratings have only been available on here for a couple of years. Prior to that there were only reviews.

 

I don't pay any attention to the ones with just scores. I do look for written reviews on beers I am considering buying, etc.

 

Nope. When I first started reviewing, I would scan a few to get descriptors, but it's been years since I've even done that.

 

I do, and I wish they'd only show the ones with reviews so you don't have to sort through pages of numbers to get anything substantive about the beer.

So, at this point, arguably the written reviews are even more important .

 

Surely... just to confirm i need to drink more beer as my palate needs more wisdom and experience!!!

but the change I noticed occured just a couple of months ago. Used to be that a beers profile would only feature full reviews - look when I joined - it was like that for some time after I had become a member

 

I occassionally read them, but more or less care about the overall beer rating. I find myself quickly pulling up BA on my phone when out beer shopping to check the ratings of the items in my cart and make sure they're worth purchasing.

 

That can lead to disappointment for sure. Say a beer is added by someone that only rates beer, then the next couple dozen reviews are just "hads" you end up with a beer in the data base that you might as well just read the label on the container because with the vagaries of homerism. rate inflation. and hype promotion that 90 just might be a red herring and you wouldn't be able to tell one single thing about that beer.

 

I love to sip on a brew while reading reviews about that particular beer. It gives me insight into what other people think and help me experience the beer in a more objective fashion. Sometimes I'll spend a good 20 minutes just drinking the beer and reading. Definitely doesn't please my girlfriend but then again most of my beer related activities don't please her.

 

I definitely read reviews. I find them infinitely more helpful than just a number score. Sometimes if I'm in a hurry I'll just read the overall rating and skip the rest.

I remember when "All 5's should be few and far between and the beer can't get any better."

I drink first, try to take some notes, then I'll read reviews to see if others are picking up what I'm picking up. I may do score if I'm on the fence about buying something or if I have too many items in my cart and I need to narrow it down.

I've always read reviews here. I like seeing what others think of the beer that I may be currently enjoying, always have. One of the best features of B.A.

 

Love to read the details of a BA's experience. Everything I write seems to not come out the way it is suppose to though, so I don't want to diss a beer I would enjoy. haha

 

I read them, however I like to focus in on what the reviewer said about the beer rather than the overall numerical ranking they gave.
